Wasn’t That Like… Two Weeks Ago?
Not before time, there are now x3 Goodwood blog entries just waiting for you to go and read.
Friday @ Goodwood - telling you all about my first encounter with Franck.
Saturday @ Goodwood - telling you how I saw Franck up close.
Sunday @ Goodwood - bemoaning the fact that Franck wasn’t there.
I jest, of course, there was more to Goodwood than just Franck. Jenson was there too.
It was interesting writing these posts so many days after actually attending the festival, because it brought it all back as though it were yesterday. Last year, I wrote x5 blog entries about the Sunday, only the day after we’d been, and then it was all over and done with. At least this way, it lives on a bit longer.
And when the video is finally ready, we can extend Goodwood’s shelf-life even more. Good stuff!
If you guys have any web stuff about Goodwood (probably posted in a much more timely manner than I have managed), then feel free to link to them below. I’m always on the lookout for good event coverage and you can have a free plug!

Cheers!
My wife and I recently returned to Atlanta USA from our trip to Goodwood. Do we win the prize for the furthest traveled to sit in the rain? No, honestly we had a wonderful time. Last night over the dinner table we listened to your podcast about Goodwood and we laughed and laughed. You really were spot on in your descriptions!
As Americans and serious F1 and sportscar racing fans, we were surprised and delighted at the true British nature of the event. We never even ran across another American (not that that’s a bad thing).
We also worried over our decision to skip Sunday and instead drive to Stonehenge and Windsor Castle on our way to London for a week’s stay. But after listening to your Glastenbury comparison, I think we made the right call!
Incidentally, you did not mention the Aston Martin DB9 crash late Friday afternoon following that cloudburst. Did you see it? Thankfully, the driver walked away, but WOW, he hit very hard, right in front of our Pheasantry grandstand.
We’d be happy to send you some pictures of our perspective on the weekend if you’re intersted. You’re free to post any that you like. Where can we send them?
We must have walked past the two of you many times on Friday and Saturday. Sorry we didn’t see you. We would have loved to say hello on behalf of all of your American listeners. Keep up the good work!

That’s brilliant - you came all that way just for Goodwood? Excellent.
We didn’t see that crash, except for a brief glance at the big screen. Heard about it on Goodwood Radio though. Must have been kinda scary, but to be honest, I’m surprised that was the only major incident, given the inclement weather and slippery surface over the weekend.
I would love to see your pictures, please send them to chris [at] sidepodcast.com. For you guys, what was the best part of the weekend?
You definitely didn’t miss anything on Sunday, except some mud

Yes, we really did come all that way just to see Goodwood! We’re pretty hard core fans (in a good way). Last year we went to Indy, and we’ve been to Canada as well. This year Indy didn’t fit our schedule, so we decided to do something NO ONE around here can say they’ve done. It’s one of those “Before you die you must go to…” type experiences.
But it hadn’t occurred to us just how difficult it would be to explain to the uninitiated what Goodwood is all about:
Them: “They race on a driveway?”
Us: “Well, it’s a 1.1 mile driveway and it’s a timed hillclimb.”
T: “A 1.1 mile race?”
U: Well, it’s also a huge auto show.”
T: “At someone’s house?”
U: Well it’s an estate. Over 100,000 people attend.”
T: “IN SOMEONE’S YARD??”
U: “Um…nevermind…”
What was the best part? Boy, that’s a tough one. I suppose seeing some very historically significant cars actuallty rolling, rather than in a museum or a magazine was pretty cool. For instance, the 6-wheel Tyrrell, Senna’s Marlboro car, and Mark Donahue’s Penske Porsche.
But interestingly, on the track, I thought the rally cars put on one of the best shows. Perhaps it was the wet track, but they seemed to be having the most fun, powersliding and drifting and doing 360s at every opportunity. Colin McRae’s WRX did a fantastic slide all the way around Molecomb Corner. Compared to the way many F1 cars sort of tiptoed around, it was quite a thrill. Michael Ammermeuller’s massive burnouts in the Red Bull were great, too.
I’ll send you a few of our pix, including the aftermath of the Aston Martin crash. We didn’t see any celebrity drivers, so most of our photos focus on the cars and the stunning Goodwood sculpture set against the dramatic dark clouds on Friday. Wow, was that cool or what? We get AutoWeek Magazine coverage of the event every year (that’s how we knew about it), and they say that every year that sculpture is more impressive than the last, and the Earl certainly did not disappoint.
Watch for our pictures. BTW, your Silverstone video is great!! Keep up the good work. Have fun at the race.
