Video 19 – China Preview

Sidepodcast TV logo

The drivers’ championship is heading to a climax, and it could all be over this weekend. Join Christine as she takes a look at the penultimate race of the 2007 season.

With long straights and tight turns, this is a particularly technical track, and one which requires more than its fair share of aero efficiency. Cars will be running with a high level of wing, while braking stability is of paramount importance.

With many teams already focusing efforts on their 2008 challengers, could this be a chance for smaller teams to shine?

Interesting that Christine is visible from outer space. It’s learning new stuff like this that keeps me young… :D

I love the “floor plan” of the china track it is really calligraphic….does anyone know if it looks like a chineese character?

I don’t care if the championship is decided or not – I just love watching them race.

    official line popppy is:

…[the track] is shaped like the Chinese character “Shang”, the first character in the city’s name.

although i heard a rumour this was more by luck than judgement. there are many Shang characters, and i’ve yet to see one in use that looks anything like the track layout above.

would love to hear from anyone with more info on this though.

Ok, I can report directly from Shanghai now that:

yes, it definitelly looks like “Shang” of Shanghai character, meaning upper up high whatever (the “hai” part means sea)

whether Mr Tilke knew or not, who knows, he may say anything he wants, it is upon us to believe him

as for that rain – today, was really hot and only few clouds. but, if that typhoon that is on the way lands where it aims (half way between Hong Kong and Shanghai), it will rain in Shanghai for sure, the question is when … before during or after the race :-)

Great film, but how the ‘kin hell am I gonna be able to get up for the race.

    Flamming time difference.

    Awesome lap by Hammi today.

Nice to see him getting behind the Rugby team as well.

A good day to be English.

Lets just hope Fernado doesn’t do anything hot headed.

Any update on the weather Wolfie?

Wow..I couldn’t stay up for the race, 1:30am our time. I set my alarm for 1:15, but I just couldn’t do it. I wanted Raikkonen to win and for Hamilton to wreck, but I didn’t think it would actually happen! Maybe our inebriated Finn can pull it off for us after all!

Keep up the good work, my friends! My absolute favourite F1 site and podcast!!!!!!!

Matthew, could you imagine the after-race party if that actually happened? the man would still be drunk weeks later.
