Quick question in regards to Bernie and Max venture into Serbia.
Why instead of building a new track, they look at bring up the Masaryk circuit (Brno, Czech Republic) to F1 standards? It is probably one of the best race courses never to hold an F1 race in Europe and is centrally located to draw off fans from all over Central Europe. It would be cheaper than building a whole new track, with a great location that has a strong racing history.
This of course makes too much sense so there is no way that Bernie and Max would do this.

dan, i don’t know too much about Brno to be honest. didn’t mclaren do a demo run there a few years back?
when it comes to bernie, cost isn’t a problem. it’s never his money anyway. i think the fact that motogp currently uses the circuit probably means there’s some political reason why f1 won’t run there.
plus, if they didn’t build a new track every couple of years, what the hell would herman tilke do for a living?

Brno’s not a great track but it would surely be better than the Hungaroring.
But how about a race on the old pre-war Masarykring? I think part of it has a housing estate on it now…

Hey guys talking Brno … That is a place I go few times a year because of business and because of friends … The track may not be great but a crowded little pub called Blahovka definitelly is… Am not kidding, that is something you probably do not see anywhere else … If you ever plan to visit the place and want to experience some local beer drinking culture let me know !
I only remember the old track from the TV as a boy, but I still recall the motorbikes roaming through then villages around now suburbs of Brno… F1 race there would be fun !

gotta be honest, i know nothing about it.

actually it was used till 1977 for motorbike Grands Prix, after that the World Championship returned to Brno only in 1987, to the new track
there are many resources on the old Brno circuit, but all of them are in Czech. I can compile some info for you if you, I am kind of familiar with the language

I think the old Masarykring would be an impossibility. Way to long (10.9 km!) and plus some of the old route has been covered by development. I know the modern Brno isn’t a peach of a track, but it would be a nice change of pace.
I think it was growing up playing Grand Prix Legends religiously, but I love a lot of these old tracks. I wish the modern F1 hierarchy would have more respect for places like Silverstone, Osterreichring, Imola, Spa, Monza, ect.
Two ideas for podcasts for this long winter… 1) How about a look at the two new circuits on the calender. I am really interested in how these two tracks will shape up.
2)Herman Tilke in my opinion is one of the most controversial figures in Formula One. I know that he doesn’t hold a candle or headlines compared to Bernie and Max, however nothing sends shivers down the spine of F1 fans the the thought another Tilke-drome. Since this is the 10th anniversary of the destruction the Osterreichring, (his first of many monstrosities in my opinion) why not take a look back at what he has done and has the tracks he has developed have helped or hurt F1.
Keep up the great work.
