F1 Rewind #1

Sidepodcast TV logo

Back by popular demand and thanks to the amazing amount of feedback we received from the pilot show, Sidepodcast proudly presents the first official episode of F1 Rewind.

News

This week Christine takes a look back at the recent run of testing, weighing up who’s looking good and who needs to work that little bit harder.

Team Talk

Submit your predictions for the Australia GP by calling the voicemail and leaving a message. We’ll play them on the audio show.

F1 on the Web

Featuring a different website each week to build up a directory of useful F1 bookmarks, this week Christine takes a closer look at Circus F1 - a site with plenty of stats and some good pictures to look at too.

As always give us your feedback, and let us know what you think of this first episode. We’re deliberately keeping things short to start with, breaking us in gently to the regular weekly schedule.

Jesus…F1 rewind is so good, it’s so slick. If what you say is true ‘You are not in the TV or media industry?’ This program is superb.I can’t lavish enough complements on it.It must be the only pre-season program on F1 in the country.
It must take up so much of your time, i just hope you can keep it going…i know it’s none of my business but you must have some sort of background that gives you the presenting talent - and of course the movie making skills to do this?.
I tell you something. One day a sat TV station is gonna give you the money and backing to do the show full time.can’t wait for the next one.
Just a couple of other questions. Will these shows have an embed code to alow me to put them on my site. And will you be doing your GP previews like you did last year?.

tis true. for my sins, a very long time ago i once worked in the music industry, but every single person i met disgusted me and the whole experience left me jaded and miserable. but aside from that, we’re making it up as we go along.

christine does watch a lot of television though, so maybe it’s rubbed off on her?

we’re taking it steady, hence why this episode is quite short. trying not to overstretch ourselves n’all that. again feedback regarding episode length / content will dictate the show’s future directions.

Will these shows have an embed code to alow me to put them on my site.

sure thing, good idea. we’ll implement a solution asap (maybe by the morning, if we can).

And will you be doing your GP previews like you did last year?

well, if we went by your calendar, we wouldn’t have time to fit one in! but yeah, if we can find the time, we’ll try and do something.

Very impressive. One question: Where did you get the footage you used in it? Just curious, mainly because we know what a bastard King Bernie is with regards to FOM owned footage.

I will try the Skype voicemail again later today. Tried about 20 times on Thursday and it failed every time.

we appear to be having some kind of technical issue - bleedin’ typical. apologies, but we have no idea what the problem is, only that it’s all skype’s fault and it only appears to affect a select few people.

we’re trying to find an alternate solution at this moment.

mainly because we know what a bastard King Bernie is with regards to FOM owned footage.

outside of the season, teams have a limited scope to create their own footage and that’s what we’re using. as i understand it most teams are wary of crossing the man - see this post about renault being shut down for more info.

have implemented a quick sample at the top of this page.

if you select the “embed” textbox and copy the code, you should be able to paste the video onto your site (in the same way that you would for a youtube video).

we tested it on our myspace page and it seems to work pretty well.

we’ll tidy up the interface and make it look a bit nicer asap. also we’ll add this option to other videos once we’re happy all is working well.

as always, let us know if things go wonky when you try it.

The Skype issue: When I couldn’t get it to work I Googled it. Consensus: Skype voicemail is very flaky.

Footage: where does one acquire it? I’d love to see more.

    Posting from an iPod sucks.

Just tried multiple times again on Skype, on two different machines both with different versions of Skype and it failed to record every time.

REALLY annoyed as I had slightly wacky predictions and really wanted to share them:( Will try one final thing. Updating Skype. In my experience this always makes things worse, but since I never use Skype for anything else anymore, like it matters…

Just wanted to say that the video info box with embed code looks excellent.

Course, it took me a while to figure that out, what with the stylesheet being cached and everything.

sorry should’ve said, it’s supposed to look like this. sorry.

    Love the show, very slick.

I think you might want to consider sticking down that vase at the front. It seemed to be moving around a bit. Other than that awesome!

    that is annoying isn’t it?

the table needs a bit of steadying. also, if i was being really picky, christine should’ve been sat slightly to the right, just to balance out the shot.

    nice show,
and liked the website tip to find new once.
i have a suggestion for future shows, websites of f1 drivers.. or rather the lack of it. most of the drivers websites are not so fun, and all of last season lewis hamilton had non at all. along with nico rosberg. he still only has a message that it is under construction, and ive been “following” it for months.. guess with all that work it will look really great when it comes online..

Great show!! :) Christine you are a natural!
One question - what will become of the weekly audio podcast? There was talk about you alternating the two, or are you intending to continue the audio podcast and do f1 rewind every so often?
Also this would be great as an application on facebook :D

can do. a fine idea daniel. to be honest i don’t remember spending much time on driver sites, but we’ll do some digging.

in short we’re planning on doing both weekly. sleep is for wimps anyways.

Also this would be great as an application on facebook

righto, we’ll get straight onto that then :)

wow, thats great! I suppose the more you do the easier it will become = less time editting. or does it not work like that? im pleased, i love both shows! ;)

As always I love your work :)

As for the length of the show, I really wouldn’t care if it ran for an hour, it’s a pleasure to watch it. I wouldn’t make this a rushed show such as F1 Minute, don’t be afraid to take your time as I’m sure anyone here will gladly sit the show out. You present it in a cool and natural way and make it seem effortless.

I like the general ambience/atmosphere (not sure what word to use) the show is set in. Great background music! That plus imo some very good and smooth editing make the show a pleasure to watch for as far as I’m concerned.

    done.

it’s literally just been written though, so the images need more work and the help screens are currently non-existent.

we’ll tidy it all up later in the week, but if you fancy giving it a shot, follow this link:

as always, any probs just holla!
