Having listened to your latest podcast and watching the ITV season preview im now even more excited about the upcoming season! I think the idea of more shows sounds great! It will really enhance the Grand Prix weekend, and make me even more excited about each race - if thats even possible!

Another job well done!
With regards to the Honda management shuffles, I was in London last summer (during the $@£*&*! tube strike!) and thinking I’d like some stuff to read on the Eurostar back to the main land I bought myself a copy of F1 Racings september edition.
Interestingly it contained an article on Nick Fry and what it is like for him to work with Honda as a company. I don’t know if you’ve read it, let alone remember it, but in relation to the topic you raised it unveils a bit about the how and why of tech director Geoff Willis leaving the team.
Now I’m the first to admit that finding a new tech director isn’t exactly an easy job, but I wonder how on earth it’s possible that the new technical director Honda appointed didn’t have a clue about how… let’s say… AERODYNAMICS works!
Seeing as this happened when it came to appointing a new techincal director, I don’t really want to think about exactly how qualified the current Honda staff might be.
This, I think, is why certain people might be leaving Honda now that Brawn’s there.
And, uhm… I don’t usually like to be the one to point out a mistake, but Ferrari’s test driver is Luca Badoer, not Badoera…
Cheers!
Michael

Your can thank Ross Braun for turning the Ferrari pit crews into the machines that they once where under his helm. Yes, Schumacher got all the credit, but it is nice to have a pit crew that are so well drilled that they can be counted on to gain you time and track position…
Sadly this was not the way Ferrari used to be and I would be reduced to tears at the number of times Jean Alesi had to suffer from a disaterous pit stop becasue they would put the wrong tyre on his car.
Your see, “Crazy Jean” was notorious for giving people like Schumacher and Senna free driving lessons when the car was on slick tyres and the track was wet. I highly recommend watching any of his races where he is on slicks and in the rain as no one could touch him on those days. Perhaps “Me” can point you in that way. Of course Alesi had to pit at some point and that is when someone at Ferrari would not clue in that Jean wanted to stay on slicks and all of a sudden when the tyre cover came off, the one crew that gave him the inters would realize that they where supposed to give him slicks. After about 20 more seconds the remaining slick would go on and by this time the other typres would be super low and cold, and it would be no wonder why Alesi would spin into the first corner and out of the race1
There would be other more biazzare occassions when the Ferrari woudl mess a pit stop, but the Alesi where the most painful becasue they would ruin what would be a magicial race.

I know it’s nearly a lost cause but I can’t help it - I have to mention: the word “schedule”, pronunciation - American “sked-yool”, British “shed-yul”. I know, I know, but think of my position - one of the last shed-yul speakers left and now in the land of the sked-yoolers. It has to be my punishment for years and years of trying to hold back the flow…
Humour me.

I’m sure I said Badoer, but I will have to go back and check now.
My fault, he said it correctly and I told him not to. Personally, I have always, always said schedule, with a sch like school. Will have to do better.

Glad to hear Aguri’s found its sponsor, although I would wish they’d give us some more details. Ah, patience, patience…

I watched the MotoGP, OK, only 125 and 250cc, by the time the MotoGP started it was 3am here and was out
I was not too impressed with the whole lighting thing. May be OK on the track, but on TV too much glare. The bike racing definitely looks better in the daylight …

At least now we know why Bernie and co are keen on night racing. The track and bikes didn’t exactly stand out but the trackside advertising looked very bright and easily read.

I’ve seen some of the pictures from the MotoGP practice, and I didn’t think it made any difference to the riders. There were some rogue shadows and it looked a bit artificial, but essentially, it was as bright as day.
It did allow for some beautiful photography, with the night sky, the blaring lights and the track underneath.

I don’t think the ITV site is too bad, the countdown looks good, and there seems to be more content on the homepage which makes it easier to find.
The Jenson Helmet is brilliant, except I was halfway through my design and Firefox crashed. I will sulk for a bit then have another go!

Damn right, good for European TV schedules (in my case it started at 8:00 PM) but won’t change anything at all in terms of where the teams are.
Yes, it looks exactly like McLaren website, hell! It’s morbid and ugly, brrrr, pass me the vomit bucket!!!

I agree with you, I just don’t like the overall design of the page. It will take some getting used to. But it did need to be updated.
yes it does especally because it now reads - 5 days and 5 hours!!
:D
I know its very easy to waste time doing a perfect design!

hmmm, hadn’t thought about that. good spot.
i literally only ever look at one page on the site, and that’s Ted’s post race analysis thingy. i don’t object to the look, but as i rarely frequent the place, it makes no odds.

I read this, then popped over. It took me almost a minute to find the countdown.
What do I think if ITV’s new site? Worse than 2007. It’s too busy, not enough contrast between key elements and very poor use of #000 (black). I really can’t stand it. Just as well I don’t use the site.
Jenson’s helmet is a nice novelty though. Ooh er, sorry, this is a family show isn’t it!?

while on this subject, i just spotted this on google:
the ad, paid for by ITV, reads:
it appears genuine but unless i’m mistaken, the TV schedule doesn’t list any coverage (and ITV haven’t covered FP1 / 2 in the past).
so is this wishful thinking on ITV’s part, or maybe some kind of web tv stream, or just comment updates like Eurosport do?

I think that we are getting Thursdays practice on the Speed channel here in the US. Speed gets it’s feed from ITV so they are going to cover it. I just checked on Speed’s website and yes we will have coverage at 11pm EDT. on Thursday. Now I cannot remember time conversion with the international date line so it may actually be Fridays practice not Thursdays. The international date line always freeked me out.

I just called you a cynic over at Ollie’s blog, Sidey, (well, you did ask) and want to make amends by telling you of my immediate reaction to your prediction of Sato for champ this year. Now that’s what I call a prediction, a truly magnificent example of the spirit of the game, a brave sally into the unknown, a complete disregard for the humiliation of being wrong. Oh, how I long for the day when you are proved right and can rub our noses in it with the words, “I told you so.”
Cynic you may be, sir, but you also know how to dream.

I have mentioned this here before but it is more relevant now. The Speed coverage is available on http://www.tvunetworks.com
They cover just about every session and don’t have James Allen commentating. Unfortunately they don’t have Martin Brundle either but it is only for practise.

lack of commentary is fine, bbc5live cover fp1, 2 and 3 anyhow. we just need pics.
the problem with tvu is i have a mac

The commentary on Speed / Wheels is actually very good. They aim it at the knowledgeable enthusiast rather than explaining that the black bit in each corner is called a tyre etc.
