Australia: Free Practice 3
Alrighty, it’s a new day and we’re back with more live comment, chat and opinion on the wonder that is free practice. This third session of the weekend is slightly shorter, running 60 minutes in length.
Our friends at ITV have unwisely chosen not to broadcast this particular session so we’re running with blinkers on at the moment, Steven Roy’s on the case though. If anyone has visuals, please do keep us up to speed.
Live timing is, as ever, available on the official site.
Shout if you’re up and about, and don’t forget we’re featuring the best comments and insight on our daily podcasts. The show covering Free Practice 1 & 2 can be listened to here.

So, half the people came out, then they all went back in again.
Just x2 Red Bull’s now.
March 15th, 2008 at 12:04 amChristine said:
Make that one Red Bull.
March 15th, 2008 at 12:04 amme said:
not the same without TV coverage, is it?
March 15th, 2008 at 12:04 amChristine said:
Make that no Red Bulls.
March 15th, 2008 at 12:06 amlou said:
Why not show the coverage? when they now show everything else? it makes no sense!
March 15th, 2008 at 12:08 amChristine said:
Maybe they have to use a different setup for the simulcasting thing and can’t do both on the same day.
Not that I’m making excuses for ITV, of course.
March 15th, 2008 at 12:10 amme said:
wow, this could be a boring session if teams are going all conservative on us?

kimi has a box full of neutrals.

I’m in Brazil. Rede Globo is not broadcasting this session not even in cable tv.
But this is odd, because usually they do broadcast all free practices on cable tv and qualifying and race on open tv.
March 15th, 2008 at 12:28 amme said:
with nearly half the session gone, massa has currently done the most laps (9), but sits in 6th position.
March 15th, 2008 at 12:28 amFelipeLeite said:
I’ve heard that http://www.tvtuga.com/content/view/203/335/ is broadcasting this session. But it seems to have a poor quality.
March 15th, 2008 at 12:29 amme said:
hi felipeleite, cheers for the info. wonder why that is?

It’s quite fun trying to match the blurry blobs of colour to the action on live timing.
Some kind of intelligence test, I think.
March 15th, 2008 at 12:32 amSteven Roy said:
Thanks Felipe.
I saw the Globo schedule and forgot about the time difference to Brazil.
Hamilton now P4

flav’s gonna have a lot to say about this

What’s his excuse gonna be this time? “His sister was driving.”
March 15th, 2008 at 12:33 amme said:
waaaay ahead of kovi
March 15th, 2008 at 12:35 amFelipe Leite said:
I dunno. Maybe because it’s prime time around here (9:30pm).
Globo has two sports channel on cable. One is broadcasting a live volleyball game, and the other one is broadcasting a live football game from south american “Champions League”, but no brazilian team is playing. Rubbish :p
March 15th, 2008 at 12:36 amChristine said:
Trulli’s only done two laps so far.
March 15th, 2008 at 12:38 amChristine said:
Coulthard is five freaking seconds off the pace. But he’s only done four laps, so maybe he has a problem?
Webber’s in 11th, not quite as stellar as yesterday.

not this time, but alonso goes purple in the 3rd too. that part of the track must be coming to the drivers now.
March 15th, 2008 at 12:40 amChristine said:
I’m thinking that either the Ferrari pit wall are lousy, or the guys are so quick that they keep catching up to people on their fast laps.

I guess it is all about being on track at the right time. The humidity chart looks like a spike. It no sooner hit 58% till it started dropping again. So there was a very short optimum time.
March 15th, 2008 at 1:10 amme said:
will have to keep an eye on that during qually. strange that none of the big guns were in the zone though.
March 15th, 2008 at 1:16 amSteven Roy said:
Sometimes you see something in F1 which defies belief. The top 6 speeds at the speed trap were
Massa
Raikkonen
Coulthard
Hamilton
Webber
SUTIL
How can Sutil be doing the same top speed as Webber and be 1km/h slower than Hamilton?
March 15th, 2008 at 1:18 amme said:
i guess the car is suffering balance issues, maybe? so they’ve flattened the aero profile giving a higher top speed but less stability.
it does look a handful.
