It feels like all we’ve done for the past two weeks is talk about races and racing, so for this episode of F1 Rewind we take a look at what’s been happening away from the circuit.
News
Nico Rosberg talks about his helmet design featured on that plane. Kazuki Nakajima talks about not having his helmet design featured on any plane. And Christine looks into a possible source of Jarno Trulli’s recent mood swings.
Team Talk
A timely reminder about F1 Digest, because we had to mention the racing at some point.
F1 on the Web
Featuring a different website each week to build up a directory of useful F1 bookmarks, this week Christine takes a closer look at F1 Wolf, in particular the photos from the Australian Grand Prix and the incredibly useful Engine Statistics chart.
We’re looking for nominations for other sites to feature, especially if they’re relatively new or unknown. Please leave details, along with any other feedback, in the comments.

in case anyone’s interested, christine’s piece to camera was recorded immediately following on from monday’s delayed podcast release (and that was after her laptop inconsiderately died).
the video was due to be released on tuesday, but i was tired too
anyone think a weekly video show is pushing us to the limit?

Hm, that Trulli’s wine … I bought a bottle of that 2004 red that appeared in the show 2 years ago. I have to say, the guy is good, the wine was very nice

I think that weekly videocast might be stretching it, me. As long as you have material for it and the time to edit together something stimulating - we’ll watch it. But don’t be afraid to skip a week if the substance isn’t there. You don’t ‘owe us’ anything, and until you start raking in the forture I wouldn’t let it consume your every waking moment.
However, if one of those waking moments could please be spent on hyperlinking to the YouTube, MP3, MP4 sources in each original post (so that it comes through on the RSS feeds), I would really appreciate that. It is not always convenient to have to sort through the ‘cast archives to find the form we like to consume. Thanks again. Top job.

I bet you repress your pets and don’t let them surf on the internet, I’m a lucky dog - I even have my own laptop! So I’m ready to protect and serve my master even in cyberspace!!! Woof!

appreciate it, and that’s mainly why the video was later than planned, so that we don’t over do it. none of the stories were time sensitive anyhow.
i wondered if this episode couldn’t have been just a little bit longer though, maybe one extra news story or something?
you’ve lost me on this one. the MP4 link should come through on the feed, at least i see it. same with the MP3’s on the audio shows. could you elaborate a little more?
as for youtube links, we can certainly add them for you.

Blue Orange Lions Dog,
You have no idea how much. I’m nearly 90 and yet today have been installed for the first time in my life as a “fanboy”.
If I tell my wife: she will kill me with the new Remington shotgun she keeps under her monster bed.
And now the Yoorpeans have all gone Blue Orange Lion Mad, Me has lost control….and global warming is just around the corner.
Life is extremely concerning….

Oh, when I get the podcast posts through on the RSS feed there isn’t a link pointing directly to a MP3 download (not streaming). That is most convienient for me, as I listen to them on the walk home from work. Perhaps I’m not looking in the right place.
March 28th, 2008 at 8:22 amme said:
we have a dedicated MP3 feed here:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/sidepodcast/mp3feed
but we need to offer more flexibility in terms of file formats and stuff. will get right on it.
March 28th, 2008 at 8:51 amChristine said:
Presumably Bruce just means we need to link to each of the file formats in the original show notes blog entry. That way he can pick and choose how/where he listens/watches.

My address is: the Blue Orange Lion Foundation, Portugal, Apartado 542, Alcobaça, 2461-901.

March 28th, 2008 at 12:42 pmthe Blue Orange Lion said:
You bet I’m serious, Apartado = PO box in Portuguese, there’s a town of Alcobaça in central Portugal, check out google maps or this website http://www.cm-alcobaca.pt/ I may have lied about the foundation with my name, ok, but I’d like an autograph - I’m decorating my new flat with F1-related stuff, like bits of carbon fibre and press releases from various F1 teams, my favourite is McLaren statement on Lewis and f-word in Hungary last year.
I’ll send an e-mail to Christine with my town address and real name, make sure it’s a nice pic ‘cos it’s gonna be on my wall or table if it’s a small pic. I’m serious.

Me,
You got any comments about the vile Spaniard gobbin’ off on the BBC websites about the possibilities of moving to Ferrari next year?
Woss he up to, making sure Ferrari know he’s available, trying to unseat Massa, or geeing up Renault to put some speed into the car?

can’t see what in the world ferrari could possibly want with de la rosa.

but i’m guessing you can’t be meaning him, right?

oddly, i think it depends on mr. michael schumacher. i dare say fa dislikes msc more than even i do, and i can’t see him going near the red team until the seven times champion is busying himself elsewhere.
so to answer your original question, i think he’s just kicking up a fuss, and nothing more. in doing so he:
- ensure’s renault don’t stop pushing
- winds up massa (not exactly best friends since the euro gp)
- keeps himself in the papers
- boosts his own ego
- keeps lewis and ron guessing
in fact, it’s the last point that’s probably key. we don’t really know what (or if any) limitations were placed on alonso to ensure his smooth exit from mclaren.
it also depends on bernie. at the moment his championship isn’t best served by one of “the three” finishing in eighth. he has x2 spanish gp’s this year and can ill afford for interest to wane.
he’s best friends with flav, and now apparently ron. he presumably carries weight at ferrari, so could easily lean on whoever he feels like in order to keep the season exciting.

“he’s best friends with flav”
Me,
Um…while I’m not a fan of Alonso: I don’t have words to express what I feel about Flav, so I’ll stay quiet on that.
Thanks for your thoughts..I hadn’t thought about the last on Ron and LH, but yeah, exit clauses can be the very devil. No doubt Ron had his nuts in the wringer, (which I would have switched on)…
Bernie might think he can influence it, but I can’t see how they’re going to get the Renault to go fast. The BMW’s is where Alonso should have gone…IMO: and I’m of the opinion that no way are Toyota and Honda going to be kept quiet for ever.
Things is changing, and for Ferrari to come back and join the pack can’t be a day too soon for me.

Sounds to me like he has signed something with Ferrari but there is some kind of commit date coming up. He is trying to wind up Renault because he would prefer to be there than have to take on Ferrari. He is trying to de-stabilise Massa and he is making sure Ferrari don’t blow the whole deal for him by signing some like Vettel on a long term contract when they have to dump Massa because he can only drive cars that can drive themselves.

Hi there! I’m BOL’s aunty and I’d like to post the following quote from an article about one very courageous woman. I know you guys like to keep it 100% Formula 1 here but remembering your “Sexist Fisi” blog entry from last year I’d like to suggest a new title “Sexist IRL”
To the IRL, size matters
If you say something long enough – no matter how absurd, illogical or wrong it may be – someone just might start to believe it. That’s the only way to explain how the open–wheel folks at the Indy Racing League came to implement its latest rule change: From now on, the minimum weight for IRL cars must include the driver.
What’s the big deal? Well, it just so happens that the lightest driver on the circuit is a woman. And not just any woman. It’s Danica Patrick, whose hotness (off the track more than on it) has made her the most popular driver in open–wheel racing.
At just 100 pounds, she weights 20 pounds less than the two other women on the circuit, Milka Duno and Sarah Fisher. The heaviest driver, according to the IRL guide, is 165–pound Ed Carpenter.
…
You can read the article in full here: http://sports.yahoo.com/top/blog/roy_s_j...
Cheerio.
p.s. My nephew was so excited about getting his first Formula 1 autograph he could hardly keep his joy, he decided to celebrate in style and emptied 50 bottles of French wine with his friends from the Blue Orange Lion Foundation. Amazing, right?

sorry ’bout that. am impressed you remember the fissi article
the new ruling does seem to make it fairer on everybody. i am slightly baffled how the lightest driver on the grid weighs 100 pounds, the heaviest 160 pounds, yet:
huh?
as for the wine thing. we just highlighted what that stuff did to trulli, you wanna go easy on that!

p.s: i like to keep things 100% f1, but christine’s happy to go with anything that has attractive men in it.
i wonder if i should expand on that rule to include any racing series containing girls in high heels?
March 29th, 2008 at 9:56 amthe Blue Orange Lion said:
I think it might be a good idea, you have girls racing in IRL, DTM, smaller formulae and even trucks in edurance rally events. You can’t hide the truth behind stories about Montagny - the GRRLS are taking over! You could send an invitation to Susie Stoddart or Katherine Legge and do a podcast with them while they’re in the UK for Brands Hatch round of DTM (Susie’s from Scotland so I guess she goes to UK between the races - ok, her website says she lives in England; Katherine should also live in the UK ’cause she’s British). It would be VERY VERY intriguing: the queen of motor racing podcast interviews the queens of DTM racing, which is kinda related to F1 since there’s Schu Jr. racing there and Norbert Haug takes personal interest in it, now he’ll (Ralf, not NH) know what’s it like to be beaten by those furious ladies!
http://dtm.com/rennen.php?rennen=2008-08-31
This could be tremendous, guys, the best podcast of the year.
It was the wine that gave me this idea!!! Bring on another 50 bottles!

HELP!
I have just uploaded the transcript for the video and I’m stuck. Mr. Trulli is talking about his wine but I can’t figure out what he says. At the moment, it’s in the transcript as ‘???’ which isn’t that useful.
If anyone knows what he says or can figure it out, I’d be forever grateful. A little puzzle for a Sunday afternoon.

Regarding Trulli’s transcript, this is what I have so far:
“My region is rich (of ‘vigne’?, which would translate approx to rich in vines).
We have a long culture and passion. Together with my father we started old buisness of my grandfather, so…
…it’s very different from Formula 1 and I’m enjoying it.”

“I do believe you’ve got it”
Okay, I do not know where that quote is from, I think John Waston said it. (No, “me” the fictional Doctor from the Sherlock Holmes stories, not the F1 driver.
Congraduations Auryn: you are hereby promoted to the official “Trulli translator”, so you had better start grabbing some of wines, for some of things he says can be truely be best described as “? ? ? “…. (As anyone who listerned to some of his track descriptions on the BBC website last year will attest.)
I just thought he took a very “Hands-on” approach to Quality Control for his family’s product, and decided to let him be.
Looking for other access roads to place concrete blocks on,
Jordan.

Okay after listening carefully to Trulli about 20 times i have come up with….

i was not sure which part you had had problems with so i did it all - perhaps i should have checked first
hope it helps.
Great podcast by the way!
