All Systems Go

To follow up on yesterday’s post regarding an impending server relocation… if you’re reading this then all went well.

Born Again

Actually it was probably the easiest migration we’ve ever done (this being only the second), despite the fact that smack in the middle of the process WordPress decided to release a new version of their publishing platform. If you followed the comments and tweets yesterday, there seemed to be a 50 / 50 split whether or not we should upgrade at the same time as moving, but seeing as it basically meant less work for us, we opted to dive straight into version 2.5.

Ideally you shouldn’t notice any changes, everything should work as before, only a bit faster. We know that a couple of the audio podcasts from last year have broken links meaning you can’t listen to them right now, but that should be sorted within the next few hours.

The Other Bits

One thing that is worth mentioning (if not a little geeky) is the Sidepodcast TV Facebook application.

The move entailed a switch from using PHP4 to PHP5 and a couple of lines of code had to be re-written. With any luck there should be no issues relating to this, but if you spot anything please let us know.

Finally, you are free to comment once more. Cheers!

So what do you think about the new Wordpress ? I am always a bit hesitant to upgrade right away when new version comes up …

pretty good actually. the admin interface has changed a lot, and i can see we’re going to forget to “tag” articles, because the box is now tiny.

all of the plugins work though (including F1 Minute), so life is good :)

Ok, I’m not sure if it’s was the move to WP2.5 or this post from DreamHost.com but I now have 4 very dead site’s, and one about to make me dead, client.

I’m only post about this here because I now have to go and meet that client to explain why, 1 - their site had been stupidly slow for the last two and a bit weeks, and 2 - their site has how disappeared complete with me unable to reinstall the backup as DreamHost have not been letting me upload anything to their under powered & under sized server due to the problem with the cluster.

So if I don’t post on here during/after FP1, 2, quail or the race, then it was very nice to have known you all.

@Christine & me, how are you liking MediaTemple? would you recommend them yet, or is it too early to say?

Thanks for putting up with me, maybe see you both on the other side one day. Wish me Luck

yikes! sorry to hear about that.

we were already using (mt) to host F1 Minute, so we have a pretty good understanding of where they’re at. recently they’ve had some downtime, but it usually lasts only 10mins or so. the customer service is excellent too.

re: WP2.5 - no issues to report as yet, all is well.

Well, I’m back home and still alive, only problem now is that I spent nearly 3 hours waiting in the pub for my client to turn up, and they didn’t, they are not replying to texts, or answering there phone.

Really hoping it wasn’t just a mean April Fools joke to waste my time to get me back for messing up the website service.

Think I may take a look at opening an account with them anyway, need to learn how to use Durpal, which crappy/slow DreamHost doesn’t support.

Thanks, oh ep58 is next on my iTunes play list

    @Christine or ‘Me’

Just signed up for a MT account to test the service, I put the referral site down as http://www.f1minute.com, not sure if you will get anything or not, but guess it was worth putting in.

Only signed up for the pay monthly option at the moment, as I currently have 2 year contract with 4 others host, 3 of which are even worths than DreamHost

That place is actual real, holy brown stuff, thanks for the Flickr link Ollie, and don’t worry it’s not off topic, this building is now where this site is coming from.

Guess they must have cleaned up the building in Photoshop then.
