Intro
Unfortunately, the Chain has gone, but it may be back, we’ll see.
Good Week / Bad Week
Good week for Jean Todt and money, and a bad week for Renault and pretty much everyone else.
News and Views
Force India have to use the lesser of two roads, McLaren have been forced to the back of the Bahrain pit lane, Massa and a lot of other people are unhappy with qualifying, despite tweaks, and er, there’s FIA presidency news.
Feedback
The search for a new tagline continues, are we daily enough? And we’re man enough to admit when we make mistakes.
Housekeeping
The new server transition is complete, help required for a transcript and how famous do you have to be to sign photographs.

Check this out - I’m trying to get myself banned from Renault F1 blog and they won’t help me, I asked for it and the answer is “NO!” This world is going nowhere, I want to complete my work of art and I can’t get no satisfaction! I even posted a link to Mad Max story on RF1 blog and used some strong language, hopefully they’ll throw me out. Ban or bust! Damn, finally I’ll be famous!!!
I think Mosley story is April Fool’s day joke. I’ll bet 1 € on that.

Your are right. You are not “famous.” You have past that stage somewhere after choosing your example line-up for Fantasy Racers.
The “infamous” stage was passed with your actual drivers lineup for Melbourne. (102nd place.)
The “notrious” stage was passed with your results for the Malaysian Grand Prix. (109th place.)
You have now reached the “Biblicial” stage for your refusal to dump your drivers for better performing drivers dispite you having the information provided to you.
And you wonder why you are now getting requests for autographs? When it comes to picking teams, you would have given Chris Amon a run for his money….

righto, +1 for the chain.
in that instance the ‘pro’ sites never made mention of the fact. even now, it’s never been officially acknowledged.
in this case though, i’d imagine keeping quiet wasn’t an option, but people still fear for their FIA credentials. i notice the autosport article is a joint effort by j. noble and a. baldwin (who actually writes for reuters, and they don’t come much bigger).
if autosport are having to hide behind the curtain on this one, you bet that everybody else is doing the same.

We would not normally cover such stories, but this one may have a significant effect on the FIA, and the world of motorsport and we feel that it should be noted.”
***
Well, for those who had hoped for scandal-free 2008 it’s another “absolute shocker” to quote S. Moss. I wonder whether Ronster had anything to do with it, surely, McLaren fine was ridiculous and I’d do just that if I were Dennis: destroy Mosley’s public image (grandprix.com mentioned last year that Ron hired private detectives to study EVERYTHING, I mean the lives of everybody involved). Although, if the video is authentic and the person in it is Mad Max and not some actor, then I have to say he imitates de Sade big time, nothing original there. Obviously, as this is a family show and I won’t go into comparisons between de Sade and MM video.

And the autograph - you guys could produce a few sidepodcast t-shirts, caps or posters, it’s the right place for an autograph.

Christine,
it is safe to go back to youtube as they have pulled the Max clips because it infringes the contractual rights of News International. I think translating media speak enough people have now seen it and it looks more credible for News International to protest it.
That way it looks like it is real and some irreputable person (connected with NOTW - surely not) has aquired the vid and posted it. If they hadn’t complained it would have looked like they were stirring it and people would have started to pick holes in it.
I guess Max gets the next move unless News International has a follow up.

Christine: regarding qualifying, while I preferred the one hour thing, the organizers of the races needed a little more entertainment to sell tickets on the Saturday.
Also: none of the really top drivers would go out till the last minute and it was often chaos.
I don’t know what the answer is: to be honest, but this system, as long as they deal with the danger of the slowing down lap, is okay. Imperfect, but better than the old thing.

Like poor Alonso fans - he changed his helmet design like 5 times and team colours two times (2005 & 2006 Renault colour scheme was more or less the same). Why suffer and waste money? In 2006 Fernando cult could’ve used “I hate your team” items on Ferrari and in 2007 on Ferrari and his team-mate and team boss. It’s good value for the money, I was asking a mere 1 000 € for a mug and a toilet seat. I still can’t believe I failed.
Was checking out BBC, Sky and CNN today - no reports on Mosley shocker, at least in the afternoon. A couple of Eastern European channels mentioned it using the word “allegedly”. Interesting.

Nonsense, Blue Orange Lion, (not getting at you personally)…
I hope I don’t upset anyone here: but the truth is: sidepodcast is quite unique and doesn’t have any funding, other than that which they make for themselves.
I don’t know them personally: but I expect they are working stiffs: trying to put together a life and job and this passion for F1. They work their butts off putting this thing together, and it deserves recognition in fiscal terms.
If everyone who listened to sidepodcast sent ‘em $5 a season: they could do more with it.
They’ve already shown that the minute they get any dosh: they go out and spend it on new kit and caboodle for the podcast: not jetting off to Monaco.
Come on you guys: a few lousy bucks every now and again. That’s how we’d make sidey strong and here next year.
Look at the F1 podcasts available, a lot of ‘em give up because its so hard to make even the tiniest shilling out of it.
Click that “donate” button.

Coulthard buys into Toro Rosso: “I’ll be one of the bosses”
In a surprise announcement made at midnight on this date, veteran driver David Coulthard has informed the media that he intends to take over Red Bull’s half-share in the Toro Rosso team.
The famous Scot’s decision follows the recent revelation from Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz, who no longer wishes his company to have a stake in the Toro Rosso outfit by the start of the 2010 season.
“When Didi said that, the idea of becoming a team owner popped into my mind,” said Coulthard. “It all seemed so suddenly logical.”
“I love racing but I’m not getting any younger you know, as you’ve repeated often enough,” he added, staring down a few gathered journalists as he spoke.
The team will be renamed Coulthard Power Racing – CPR.
“Initially I wanted it to be named the CSR team, but the word ‘Super’ was already taken,” admitted Coulthard, whose Superman cape worn on the 2006 Monaco podium is still draped over the shoulders of a wooden sculpture, representing a large life-size naked woman, standing next to the entrance of his appartment.
It also appears that the team’s current engine supply contract with Ferrari will be terminated in favour of Mercedes. The new deal should begin with the 2010 season.
“I no longer work with McLaren-Mercedes of course, but I was there long enough to still have rights to the employee discount,” Coulthard stated. “We’ll save millions!”
Gerhard Berger’s wishes of remaining on board as Team Principal will be respected, since Coulthard’s role as a Grand Prix driver will be maintained when he transfers teams.
“As I’ve said many times before, I still have all the energy required to race,” he repeated once more. “I’ll be one of the bosses at CPR anyway, I can pretty much take any position I want.”
“And it’s not like anyone is going to prevent me from doing so if ever I’m no longer up to par,” he declared with a hearty guffaw.
Standing at his side up until that moment, Gerhard Berger smiled, shrugged, took another bite out of his tuna sandwich and walked away.
There’s even a pic of DC and a small note: Coulthard moments before he accidentally dropped his helmet in a nearby fish tank.
What a day!

It really shows how warped the sport is. Bernie doesn’t want Max to go to the race because the Bahraini Royal Family wouldn’t like it. Screw them what about the millions of us who buy sponsors products and finance the whole operation including Bernie’s billions? What we want is vastly more important than a few people who have only just discovered F1? What about the people whose businesses depend on F1? Are they not more important?
Bernie really does only see the short term. He shold be advising Max to stay away for the good of the sport and everyone involved not for the sake of a few people who are so rich that they can build a track for fun.

Yeah, F1-Live reports that MM’s lawyers are very busy and News of the world removed the video and the pics from the story, too lazy to check it out. MM must at least put out some kinda statement, that would be fair.
“I don’t think it’s going to be easy,” Ecclestone told The Times. “And if he starts to sue, from what I understand, the chances of him winning would be slim and, the trouble is, it’s just a lot more ink for the press. If Max was in bed with two (were there 5 of them??? Bernie must learn how to count!) ladies of the night, they’d say ‘good for you’ or something like that, but this, as it is, people find it repulsive. I think that’s the problem.”
***
The problem is: F1 is no longer a sport for private racing teams (I miss Arrows and Minardi so much!), car manufacturers seem to have this ridiculous idea that it’s a good PR tool and no more so they wouldn’t want to have someone like Mad Max involved. “Hey, check out our brand new XXL E-Class limited Mosley edition, enough space for 6 people to have fun!” That’s negative PR for big guys, it’s their investment after all.

Isn’t it safer to run FP1 at Bahran in the day time to let driver learn/remember the track before making them driver round in FP2 at night under the lights?
If you use ‘Your Daily F1 fix’ won’t the little man in the bad jumpers come after you for using the term ‘F1′ in your sub-title?

April 1st, 2008 at 7:17 pmDan Brunell said:
Holy cow… Max states that this was something that was private was really none of our business (fair point.) He also said that his actions did not have any meaning or relation to the national-socialist movement of 1930’s and early 40’s or re-enacting the concentration camps of WW2 (based on what I’ve seen and read, that bull.) He also states that he will be taking the media outlet in question to court (fat chance, the damage has already been done and taking it out only stretches the drama. If it was filed in America, the case would be thrown out in court. He does however have a legitimate case who ever stole or got the material for the News of the World.)
Long story short… he is a goner from F1.
Despite what we may think of Max, how he has run this sport, the actions portrayed on this video, or all of the other ugliness he has shown over the years; this is a horrible way to go out. From my day job, I have seen up-close how politicians who get caught in these situations are absolutely destroyed on a very personal level some of us cannot even imagine. See, it isn’t just the person themselves but their staff, co-workers, partners, family, and friends that have to cope not only finding out about a side of a co-workers/father/husband/friends life that they couldn’t even imagine but also the pressures of media and outside world pasting reminders of this horribleness it all over the world. I’ve seen marriages broken-up, friendships lost, promising careers ruined, even suicides because of scandals like this. Even with people who I have personally dislike and even hated, it hurts to see them go through it. Despite really not liking Max, I do have a little bit of sympathy for him and a lot of sympathy for the staff of the FIA, his family, and rest.
So please keep that in mind, please. It happened, he will have to resign, and let’s get over it soon for everyone’s sake.
On a side note, I am actually rather proud of how the blog space has covered this. It would be easy to plaster it all over the blog-sphere scream how Max is X,Y, and Z. Actually, I think they showed more restraint in the coverage than most “mainstream media” outlets. Most blogs ignored the story or covered it with the benefit of the doubt. Most didn’t really jump to conclusions or show callousness in the situation. Let’s hope this continues.

Although I agree with that, it may also have something to do with the fact that “mainstream media” outlets can afford the huge lawyer fee’s that will result when Max try’s to sue them, most blogs can just about afford they hosting bills.
Also is it just me or has the video footage been taken off the NOTW site now? I noticed it has gone when looking for how long they had been married.

Sorry Christine, but I did say sorry right afterwards, and at least it looks like the video footage is of the NOTW site now so you won’t have to worry about coming across it by mistake, unless someboby starts ‘Rick Rolling’ to it. Now that would be a really bad April Fools. So Christine have you click the link in this comment yet?

along with the incriminating photos, yep.
yeah, but max would love that, wouldn’t he? if he goes (for the sake of his family), then i agree. if he needs a push, then silence is wrong.

“How do you punish someone who is in to that stuff?”
Steve,
From the old jokes home:
The masochist lies on the bed, tied up and in handcuffs.
Desperately: he begged: “beat me”.
The dominatrix replied, with a sardonic smile: “No”.

Cool, just hope Christine doesn’t read that comment or she be having even more nightmares of Max tied to a bed in handcuffs.
Guess Christine had better skip this comment too, I wonder now many time’s I’m going to have to say sorry to Christine before this story dies?
Sorry Christine

Somebody set Max up big time, no doubt about it. The guy’s been busy making enemies all this time and pushed a little bit too far somewhere along the line so another guy or a group of guys decided they no longer wanted him where he was. I know, it sounds like another BBC miniseries on politics and power struggles, “State of Play” part 2?
My advice for MM is to retire, accept his fate and just write memoirs and cash in on this situation. I’m sure he’ll have a lot to share with us fans, maybe a few secrets from his time in F1.
I’d also like to defent Mad Max. In my next post I’ll tell you why.

Defend, of course.
Here’s why: the guy is part of world aristocracy and you simply must participate in orgies if you are a part of it. It’s natural, it’s in their blood, they can’t fight it. Besides, it’s his personal life, he can do what he wants. He ought to have been a bit more intelligent/careful and hide his personal preferences better.
Look, Led Zeppelin II cover, it has German theme, it’s a great album and the musicians had taste for orgies, so what? The Rolling Stones built their early career participating in orgies. Oscar Wilde, for example, it’s the same thing.
It’s not like Max was reporting to his female orgy counterparts: “Zis is Private Parts, my general!” By the way, drinking tea was a nice touch, very stylish, reminds me of de Sade novels or Pasolini films. That’s what any intellectual would do to have fun, you know, you can’t assume the whole world is so pristine. But as I said before F1 race weekends are often seen as family events so there’s no way he can continue walking on the grid an giving PR interviews.
It’s life. What can you do?
p.s. I wouldn’t do what he did, you can trust me. OK?

I think he is a gone without a doubt. If he doesn’t resign in the next week, I will be shocked. Bernie and the FIA Board will pressure him force him to resign or retire or outright fire him. In his job of running a sporting body is to have at least some sort of integrity. (even though I would disagree that he even had that, but still) This blows that to shambles. There is no recovery from this.

The second it started affecting Bernie’s future profits Max was dead meat.
Given that when Max re-wrote the FIA rules he did it in such a way that the President picked his cabinet before the election then it has to be remembered that he hand-picked the current mob. I guess that means they can either show loyalty to him or cut him off and try to keep their positions. I can only imagine that they would do what their leader would do in the same circumstances and drop him like a hot stone.
The fact tha a disreputable character like Max chose Ferrari board members as his deputy and his successor should be totally ignored. It should not be assumed that there is any association between the Scuderia and disreputable characters. Oh no. Definitely not. Never. The fact that a disreputable character who associated himself with Ferrari board members who obviously had no way of knowing he was direputable awarded them both championships last season and harassed their biggest rival should in no way suggest any negative aspect of his being is shared by anyone at Maranello. The fact that he let them race and win with a totally illegal car in Melbourne last year should not suggest that he was in any way biased towards them. No!
Bye Max. Be a good lad and take Bernie with you.
