An Announcement

People of Sidepodcastland.

Apologies for the short notice.

Due to unforeseen / slightly foreseen circumstances, we will be taking a short hiatus.

I’d like to say it’s not because Max’s video has scared me away from the internet, but you know…

More news soon.

AS long as it is not the position of “Pit Lane” Reporter. ITV’s over-exporsure of Hamilton can not be cancelled out Christine’s over-exposure of Button or Bourdais.

Maybe Super Aguri going to be come “Sidepodcast Racers” with Christine In comparision to Ferrari two years ago, in Jean Todt’s role and “me” in Braun’s role?

Come on, the worst they could do is 11th! The reason why they step up their plans is Franck sure to be without a seat in the combined CART/IRL over here in America and Sidepodcast do not have enough cash to buy Toro Rosso and enough now to buy Super Aguri….

Yeah, I’m ready to come up with a few million euros myself if it’s necessary to buy out SA to get rid of Sato and put Franck back where he used to race.

Not to steal their thunder, but it is a safe bet to assume that they made a deal with Honda to swap Sato for Button….

    Sidepodcast Racers (fromerly Super Aguri)

    So team lead: Jenson Button
    2nd Driver: Franck Montagny

Now who else is Christine slightly (as in miles) biased about to use as Test & third driver?

She should also hire the full ITV reporting crew to use as their wind tunnel for all the amount of “hot air” they seem to be able to generate. At least until they can build a proper wind tunnel.

My thinking went like this: Drop a news-grenade about a hiatus, leave just enough information out to keep everyone on the edge of their seats as to what could be going on, and when the full-story posts fans of Sidepodcast everywhere pull it down to find-out. Ergo, big download numbers.

Given that we’re in the midst of a long break betwixt races, the next cast will undoubtedly be very popular regardless — fans need their fix.

Just another quick comment: I’ve joined the F1 Racing Reader’s Panel and I’ve recieved my first e-mail from them to ask a question to Frank Williams. If your question is picked, they ask it to Frank himself and publish it in the June issue of the magazine. Here’s hoping my question makes it in there. I’ve decided to ask him:

You’ve said that you’re against customer cars, but when your team first started in F1, you used customer cars, did you not? Therefore, why are you opposed to them now when the very existance of your team in F1 all began with them, and do you think Prodrive’s absence from this season is down to your opposement?

    Should be an interesting answer….

Sorry to hear that your having to take a Hiatus, but glad it;s for a good reason.

As your both on hiatus, could you please have a quick look in Paypal at you donate button, which I hope everybody is trying to use, the reason my donation didn’t go though may have been down to when I hit the final confirm button, instead of going to a ‘Thank you for donating’ kind of page, it went to page can’t be found, which caused the confirmation not to work, hence the donation doesn’t seem to have gone though.

If you can have a look at that when you get time and then let me know I will try to make the donation again. Thanks, but don’t rush, Paypal isn’t going anywhere.

Can’t wait to find out what the Good reason for the hiatus is.

Here’s some interesting info for you: Vijay Mallya has forged a deal with the EADS (European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company). This has come about due to the EADS’ boosted profile via Airbus, Kingfisher’s supplier of planes. Kingfisher is, as you know, Mallya’s airline and the main sponsor of Force India.

It’s also said they’re going to help Force India with the aerodynamics on their VJM-01. If they do, it should be some fascinating results.

A hiatus from you two can only mean one of two things: you are somehow involved in the Max Mosley Sex scandal (I suspect a pix of ME in a nazi uniform has surfaced somewhere) or you have been summoned to the WMSC to answer questions as to why Christine has so many text messages from Nigel Stepney on last years bill.

putting a positive spin on things, I guess the hiatus could be a long holiday in the south of France digging up carbon fiber pieces from the runoff area at Paul Ricard. Just a hunch but there’s very little to go on and imagination has brought down nations so you do the math. ;)

Is that new nose and air intake going to help keep the drivers cool?

They always moan about the heat, but this year the cabs have gone up significantly by all accounts, perhaps to do with the raised sides brought in after Kubicas shunt in Canada.

  64. April 15th, 2008 at 1:56 pmSteven Roy said:

It is not going to affect the drivers. The hole on top is an exit and underneath the nose there is an inlet. The area under the nose is a high pressure area and they are bleeding off the high pressure air. The exit on top of the nose is supposed to feed the air to the rear wing.

Apparently this works on the sam principle as the Williams walrus nose although it is obviously nowhere near as radical.

Barrichello was quickest today in the second day of testing in Barcelona. Both he and Fisichella were running cars with 2008 aero regs and slick tyres, while the rest stuck to grooved tyres. Honda also reintroduced a new aero piece - the “elephant-like” add-on to the front wing, which in my opinion looks more like rabbit ears. Is it me, or does this shot below make it look like a Rolls Royce’s Silver Spirit hood ornament?

    http://images.gpupdate.net/large/97057.jpg

Red Bull and Toyota also sampled slicks. Renault also tried out a special Red Bull-style anvil wing on the engine cover. There’s also a couple of shots of Toro Rosso’s new STR3 being worked on. Their car will also sport an anvil wing like Red Bull. The car will get it’s first run since the shakedown tomorrow.

The Ferrari nose is interesting. I don’t think it was the reason for the two second jump, but done right it could add a few more pounds of down force. My only question is where is the inlet? it if is right at the front wing, they could be doing a semi “ground effects” configuration where the vent lowers the pressure under the front wing while the design of the wing with its’ mini endboards and curve design creates a suction point to create more grip.

Ferrari isn’t the only one test wild and crazy stuff.

Renault is testing Red Bull’s crazy engine cowl.

Honda is testing some “rabbit ear” wings on the nose of the car.

    Hi Brendan

So far I’m still testing out SquareSpace.com with they own blogging/website software which is hosted on clustered servers.

Plus trying WP2.5 and MediaWiki out on DreamHost.com, but still stuck on the really slow Blingy server. Which is really putting me of them, which is a shame as GeekBrief.TV are hosted at DreamHost and is a really fast, stable site, which is how a ended up giving DreamHost a try.

I’m also trying WP2.5 and Drupal out on MediaTemple.com, which although seems fairly stable the fact that you have to use a separate FTP uploaded to get new themes on to the server is a bit of a pain, it’s a good good that WP2.5 now has an auto update for plugin, which downloads, uploads, deletes old and installs new versions of plugin for you with one click per plugin. It’s a really pain having to try and do those with a SmartFTP.

I may also be giving Tikiwiki on BlueHost.com a try.

I’m going to keep multiple hosting as with the 1.5TB that BlueHost offer I’ll be able to use that as a online backup of my other Hosting companies.

Still haven’t been able to get out of HostMonster why they kicked me off thought.

PS, Christine and ‘me’ glad to here that you should be back by the end of the week and sorry if this comment ends up in your spam folder because of the number of links.

PPS, to all, no I do not list these hosting companies here because I have any affiliate programs with them, they are just straight links to the companies home page

I attempted to fire off a multiple-level pun. Maybe it only works on one basic level. Please tell me that you at least got the simpliest pun between “Nut” and “Squirrel”.

    Nut house. Self-explanatory.

Now “Squirrelly”: well squirrels are very unpredictable creatures as you drive by. You never know when one is going to play chicken against your car. So I guess being “Squirrelly” is a nice thing to have aginst bonker Hamilton-fans in Hamilton-Land who have you in their sights when you are considered to be and I quote “…the vile Spaniards press agent” unquote.

There was this bit of dialogue between “me” and “Christine” that discussed an upcoming “wedding” you had to go to…and “me” acted as though it was news to him, Christine replied with “the look” (you longtime married guys know what “the look” is).

Anyway, as you folks already seem to dedicate the equivalent of two-lifetimes of effort in producing Sidepodcast-related content, I think a LONG hiatus under the circumstances is not only appropriate, but darned-well deserved!

Are you seconding “lou’s” suggestion of “Mr. Blachford” then Journeyer? (This would be the only other name choice that got this far)

How can you call them “The White Strips of F1″ if they are following Korean Wedding Tradition were the male party assumes the female’s surname?

And finally, give Honda credit for having the Earth spin on the proper axis. They did have to make the stickers so that the views of the earth are those looking down on earth at the North and South Poles to do so, than that’s why it looks stranger than the normal profile shot!

Since Max’s room in Barcelona is no longer needed as he is sliming off to Jordan instead I think the FIA should donate it to Mr & Mrs Sidepodcast as a wedding present.

    ha! love it.

it isn’t a coincidence that, such is her dedication, the lady planned said event during a break in the f1 calendar.

Thanks Lou for the link to Honda’s eco pattern wheel bins.

i see macca have also decorated their bins. although it looks like someone threw a tin of emulsion at the car as it headed down the pitlane.

for all the millions teams earn from sponsorship, you’d think they could fork out for some decent designers.

Here’s something else you guys seem to have missed - BMW ran a completely different nose and front wing configuration on Wednesday. New update for Barcelona, or testing out some 2009 parts? All I know is, from the pic, the horns are gone and the nose is wider and the front wing is straightened out and less “frilly” if you know what I mean ;) lol

    oooh, nice one scott.

looks like they’re running a slim rear wing and slicks, so it could be an ‘09 front section too.

mind you, if you wanted to sneak in a front wing change, what better day to do it?

Oh yeah, and don’t tell Christine, but a certain F. Montagny was 7th quickest in first qualifying for the last Champ Car race in Long Beach. ;)

    Sorry, me again :P

Looks like Barrichello wants in for the long run with Honda.

Do you really think he’ll be able to retain the seat? Don’t get me wrong, I think Rubens is a great guy and had his share of success (and controversy) in his Ferrari days. But since he joined Honda, his pace has dropped a bit over the years. I’d think that’s mainly due to the car. IF he does keep the seat, and Honda use the 2008 season wisely to prepare for ‘09, I reckon Barrichello could have maybe 1 more season in him.

All depends if he can still deliver, what with him becoming the most experienced F1 driver ever next weekend. Thoughts, anyone?

Sorry, one more quick thing: if you read in that article, you will find that Rubens reveals Honda’s next aero update will be at the British GP.

    I’m good, aren’t I? :P

he’s had a bad start to the season, two major mistakes in the pitlane in the first two races. right now i can’t see it, maybe he’s doing a ralf:

    i do have a drive, i do have a drive… oooh, DTM

i’m not confident that he’ll be driving next year.
