Live Commenting: Turkey - The Race
Race day in Istanbul, and unfortunately while it’s overcast it’s likely to remain dry throughout.
A key point of today’s race could well be the warm up lap, Ferrari have struggled to get temperature into their tyres in Turkey’s cooler climate and with Massa on pole you can expect a hard and fast lap from the Brazilian. Will it be enough though? The good news for Felipe is the run down to the first corner is short enough that he should be able to cover his position into the tight left-hander, the rest of the lap could be tricky though.
Further down the field we have Coulthard in a significantly better position then previous efforts, but can he avoid a first lap collision from the middle of the pack? And can Heidfeld come through the traffic from his relatively lowly qualifying position?
We’re opening this thread a little earlier than usual, so please let us know your pre-race thoughts and predictions. Tell us where you are and what you’re watching too.
Some useful links for today’s race:

Predictions anyone?
1: Massa
2: Kovi
3: Kimi
Who will hit a wild dog on the track? Even money on either Vettel or DC.

morning dan, my predictions for the podium then:
- lewis
- kovi
- kimi
i’m pitching for a mclaren comeback at this race. and lewis should have more sets of tyres available to him. massa, may bin it on a cold set, but if he doesn’t he might sneak in ahead of kimi.

As for predictions….
1: Raikonnen
2: Massa
3: Kubica

first lap accident predictions too then:
- piquet and kazuki just have to collide. they’re both under pressure from their team bosses.
- someone up front’s bound to bring about the chaos into the first corner. webber’s run of luck must come to an end soon, right? so let’s have him and trulli touching.
May 11th, 2008 at 11:41 amChristine said:
I really, really want Kovi to do well here. It’s his turn.
May 11th, 2008 at 11:42 amChristine said:

To catch everyone up, there was a problem in the GP2 race with dogs on the track this morning with one of the cars hitting one. Hopefully they have solved this problem by race time.
I just get the feeling that Lewis is going to make a mistake with both Kimi and Kubica breathing down his neck. Plus he has to get around both Massa and Kovi. If anything, at least his grid position is on the clean side of the track.
May 11th, 2008 at 11:50 amme said:
hi kathi, down to the first corner at the spanish gp, he almost did exactly that. so it’s not out of the question.
May 11th, 2008 at 11:52 amAlianora La Canta said:
I’ve heard that there are a lot of wild dogs in Turkey, but having them wander on the track is a really bad idea. Ask Bruno Senna (he was the GP2 driver who hit the dog this morning).
And yes, Piquet Jr/Nakajima sounds very plausible for an accident. There may well be one further up the grid, and if so, we could see one of those composite pile-ups that Turkey first laps are notorious for producing.

I think they”ll all start on options…

howdy alianora, that’s a good point. the run down to the first corner in brazil (similar left hander) was pretty clean and that featured massa on the front row too, so i have high hopes the drivers don’t go all GP2 on us

hi ladysnowcat, so long as they get away from the grid the first time of asking, i think the ferrari’s should be ok. a yellow flag on the grid though, could be disaster for them.

It’s hot, lou?!? I’m just about normal temperature (though in my defence I am in a cool stone house).
I think Massa and the front-runners will be fine, me - it’s the group just behind them and the group near the back that worries me!

On Speed, They just showed Kubica at the GP2 race watching with intent. After reading his comment earlier this week, I get the feeling that he is going to pull a Montoya on us, where he oblivious has the talent but gets bored and move on to something more interesting.

Massa
Kubica
Kovi
I’d like Jenson to get a few more points and I think Hamilton will if not be in the top 3 be very close, and will Alonso pull some thing out of the bag? A good bit of racing with Webber or someone else higher up than him on grid perhaps?

1. Massa - he is very good at winning from pole.
2. Kimi - he will probably take kovi in the first corner
3. Kovi - he is looking faster than Lewis….but then again Lewis does have more tyres….

I was watch qualifying for the Indy 500 yesterday. When they went to commercial, they show the commercial and the live qualifying in a picture-in-picture format so while the ad was going, you didn’t miss any of the action. You think at least one of the channels covering F1 would of figured this out by now.

RTL (German TV) does this picture in picture thing during the race. It always annoyed me because it was too small to really see anything.
I’ve uploaded Kimi’s off, to which Ross Brawn said this. For me it looked more as if he let the first one through then saw the second one and decided to disappear completely.

lol there we go….answer to me question on friday….Louise was there for ITV. OMG This is brillaint! awww Rubens is brilliant! the longest interview i ahve ever seen/ heard with Rubens. AWWWWWW!! and i love his golf club cover!
May 11th, 2008 at 12:33 pmLadySnowcat said:
I think Ross should remember that Felipe beat Michael fair and square round here…
And Kimi has set the second fastest lap of the weekend so far and was quickest in Q2, he has admitted to a blip in final qualy where he is all of 0.013 behind Lewis and 0.126 behind Heikki so if that’s a really bad day at the office we’ll have to wait to see how the fuel works out to decide…
The one thing I will say is that unlike Barce where he was consistently quick as well as quickest his times have been up and down …. and the last time he had less fuel that Massa in Bahrain he carefully never mentioned fuel and strategy in his post qualy comments but this time he has…
My theory is that he has been trying some pretty heavy fuel loads in practice hence his inconsistency but then I have been known to be wrong…
And I am praying…

Man, they just showed in the GP2 highlights of Bruno run in with the dog… that was horrific. He hit the poor dog on the fast straight full-on. That reminds me of what happened to Cristiano da Matta a few years ago at Road America.

on the ringtone front can you record the sound of an F1 engine on your phone/ipod then some how use it on your phone is that possible, it does rather assume access to an F1 car tho…;-)
