    yay! great show guys! :D I really enjoyed it, i needed the laugh! and i got some mentions too! :D Will you be returning to the usual format of the show (race predictions after quali) next time? i understand it was not appropriate this time because you had alot of stuff to cover.

    Have you put it on itunes yet? Because when i go to update the podcast nothing downloads.

    oh and im loving the return of Ted news ;)

    Yay! The shows back! It’s been way too long. Adrian Sutil will probably will be first to go, or should that be third to go? Nakajima might not see the season through either. I think Klien deserves another chance but maybe not this year.

    Great show as ever. The sound was quieter than normal. I run your podcasts on my laptop at full volume and this one was a bit quieter than normal. Maybe something to do with Christine’s computer change. It is not so quiet that it is a problem though.

    I think dropio should be pronounced drop I O as I assume it is meant to mean drop in/out. I can’t help being a pedant.

    Thanks for the compliments on my underdeveloped artistic ability. I think Lou’s latest attempt shows she has mastered straight lines as well. Unfortunately she clearly has a much better grasp of complicated straight line patterns than me.

    I think you should consider a special EGM show but whether or not you do it in the end will probably depend on the verdict and the fall out. I guess Alianora will be busy explaining all the rules that are quoted in the transcripts. Assuming there are any transcripts.
    I will miss live commenting on Thursday but will be around for both Saturday sessions and the race.

    Great show as always guys.

    Interesting stuff about kers. OK, I appreciate the teams have a lot to deal with other the next few seasons as they get used to all the new regs and work out how to get the best out of the cars with the new aero packages, but it does seem strange that they seem to want to limit the kers development, particularly as this technology could improve their overtaking chances through a boost button (I do remember reading about that, right?). It seems strange they want to limit development on a technology that could improve race performance.

    Oh, and Christine, love the sidepodcast theme as your ringtone. Where can I get a copy???

    To be honest, Lou, I don’t think our ideas have changed since last time. We really, really don’t know what we’re gonna be doing, we have no plans yet, and it’s all probably going to be a last minute thing, as per usual.

    What about you?

    Am hoping to go to goodwood, as i have never been before, and if ROC is at Wembley i may go. But nothing is booked :/ No races (again) this year. Which is sad as one is on my birthday :’( would be an amazing present, but expensive as my birthday is on 12th October which is the Japanese GP in Fugi, so maybe not.

    Too much information I know, but I would love to do to this next year at Canada or even the UK. (or if the US every gets it GP back.) Sorry…

    not a problem sir.

    i should also mention that the EGM isn’t actually until the tuesday 3rd, rather than th 27th as i somehow convinced myself it was. the problem still stands though, we’ll do a show on monday and the fia meet the next day. i think we’ll go with steven’s suggestion and do a dedicated podcast if one is warranted.

    regarding the aforementioned volume issue, i think it’s to do with a lack of vocal compression, which is a problem we had right back when we first started, so we’ll try and sort that for next weekend.

    finally, pics of kubica driving to the award ceremony:

    Speaking of rumors, here are some ones I would like to start:

    - Nelson Piquet Jr replacement is only temporary as Renault is in negotiations with Toro Rosso for the services Sebastian Bourdais for 2009 and beyond.

    - Adrian Sutil maybe out the door sooner rather than later with Vijay Mallya growing impatient with his performance. Vitantonio Liuzzi, Christian Klien, Anthony Davidson, and any Indian driver are possibilities.

    - Impressed with the way Lewis Hamilton flew gracefully through the air, Andrew Lloyd Webber announced that he will cast Lewis as the led in his upcoming adaptation of Peter Pan set for spring of next year.

    - In a shock move, Nick Heidfeld and BMW agree to go separate ways. Candidates for his services include Red Bull who hope to team him up with Mark Webber.

    - Sensing an opportunity to stick it to Honda and increase their domestic fanbase, Toyota will replace Timo Glock with Takuma Sato by the end of the season.

    - In a shock move, Massa will leave Ferrari, claiming that they ruined his championship chances by showing preferential treatment to Kimi.

    Just listened to the entire show - it kept stopping in the beginning for me yesterday, must be my dumb outdated laptop.

    I’m keeping this name for a while.

    Yeah, Sutil is no demon driver, Fisi can be quite good when he’s in the mood but Sutil’s been doing his impersonation of Tiago Monteiro - which is going nowhere fast (slow???), on a highway to hell? Or DTM or WTCC?

    Anyway, I proposed this new PR event on RF1 blog, I made a bet - if Alonso finishes on the podium in Monaco I’ll run around central London naked.

    And Renault PR man got interested in the idea: “A podium would be a dream result and as we all know anything can happen in Monaco – so be careful what you wish for BOL.”

    Later on I described my vision of the event:

    I’ll do it, RF1, if FA can make it happen. But how do I deal with London police then? I’d have to run like that journalist who made a similar bet on McLaren win in 2004. I could even raise some money for the charity! That would be fantastic! I’m really counting on Fernando and I’d like to start my run near Big Ben.

    I’ll run until the police catch me of course. But I assume we could get in touch with London’s new authorities and ask for a permission, I’d like somebody from Sutton images to take pictures of the event, maybe Red Bull could act as main sponsor and Sakon in R27 could be following me, you know, I want good vibrations, people throwing flowers and celebrating, we need beautiful music, Oasis could seize this opportunity - write a new song and perform it live on a moving platform, in fact I can write a song myself, I’d call it “naked run (have some fun)”. It’s just an idea, all right, we could have U2 or Johnny Rotten instead of Oasis or even the Chemical Brothers. It depends on the budget. I’ll try to get in touch with Mateschitz to see if he’d be interested.

    Yeah, my plan sounds a bit phantasmagoric but it’s doable.

    Actually, I’d rather have the Rolling Stones performing for the crowds, I always wanted to meet Keith Richards and jam with him, that “open g tuning” thing is simply marvellous, I guess I could be running with a guitar strapped across my shoulder to cover the naked truth and play with the Stones, hey, Satisfaction or (Gordon) Brown Sugar would sound fantastic. And if Sakon performed some doughnuts and burnouts for the crowd - man, it’d be the dream event for London, forget those games or whatever, my event would be alien spaceship landing on planet Earth right in the center of one of the greatest cities in the world.

    Hmm…

    No. Never. But this thing is fun, easy to play but not all the time. Not sure if my comment is F1-related but there are many F1 personalities who can play one instrument or another: Hill, Irvine were guitar players. Eddie Jordan was a mad rock’n'roller and Sakon Yamamoto and L. Hamilton are DJs, well, sort of, they can often be seen messing with turntables. They’re no Beastie Boys of course, maybe with a little help from Sutil they could form a power trio. Imagine Sutil smashing his piano with a sledgehammer on stage.

As for the boat’s eventual fate, doesn’t that depend which ending you see (last I heard, there were about four)?

    Christine, your quote above shows what the males were expecting Titanic to be, in another words, an almost remake of “A Night to Remember”, which can be summed up as “Boat Sinks, Heros die.”

    Titanic can be summed as “Historically impossible romance with silly love triangle takes 5/6 of shows 3.5 hour lengh has all males in audience completely asleep by the time boat hits iceberg. Males in audience wait for years to find out what happens in last 45 minutes of film via an F1 web site….”

    Come on, what’s not to like? Boat sinks, hero dies. That’s my kind of film!!

    Why oh why Titanic… I was a projectionist at a local theater when I was in high school. That was one of the movies I had to work on and probably listened to it 1-2000 times in its’ six month run. Listening to it on the podcast brought back some horrible flashbacks of me trying to work on calculus with that drivel screaming in my ear. If there is a hell, I already know what it is. It’s Celene Dion screaming into my ear while trying to understand differential equations in a dark musty room that smells like soy oil and popcorn.

    I think a more apt movie example for the Lewis Hamilton flying fiasco is Peter Pan. A kid who needs magic pixie dust to fly (substitute Ron Dennis for Tinkerbell) and lives in a magical world where he never grows up and get to act like little brats without punishment. I for one always root for the pirates in this movie (actually in all movies.)

    Nice discussion going on, I thought I’d say something: Titanic the movie sucks, Titanic the ship sank. Period.

    You know, I was thinking last night how is it possible that Scuderia didn’t sink like Titanic after Schumi/Brawn/Byrne/Todt death squadron left? It was so obvious, even Lauda was predicting that. Instead we’re being treated with Italian national anthem almost every Sunday after the race. Ok, Ferrari got their fake Constructors’ title and Raikkonen got his lucky title (because it was lucky no matter what pundits/fans/Ferrari bosses may say) but this year the team just had to disintegrate, shame we now have only Bridgestone, I’m sure Michelin would give other teams more edge, I don’t mind if they spend more money on testing but the quality of the show could be vastly improved. Repeat of Ferrari form of the 1980s would be perfect for the sport, everybody’s favourite losers, that’s just perfect (I don’t care who wins as long as it’s a different winner every two weeks, sort of like 1999/2003 season). The big question is whether Raikkonen intends to stay in F1 beyond 2009, I hear he has a clause in his contract which allows him to quit if he wins a championship this year. Alonso to Ferrari would be the end of F1 for me because the guy would start winning everything in Schumi style.

    fernando needs to stick with a team long enough to develop and build something around him. skipping teams isn’t helping him at all. if the budget cap becomes a more sensible figure renault could be in the box seats again.

    no-one saves money like thrifty-flav and it’s the red teams ‘extra’ funding that’s helping them along so nicely right now. would all the manufacturers go for it though?

    do you have any thoughts on it. my feeling is, as i think i said before, that’s it’s just a huge charade cooked up between max and bernie. seems a little odd that the entire motorsport world is about to collapse in on itself wouldn’t you say?

    the majority of opinions i’ve heard seem to focus on the more outlandish of his suggestions, but the important thing for me is that he wrote it at all. the contents are benign, it’s was always going to leak, and it was probably planned that it would leak.

    I don’t know about destroying any examiners, but one of the other candidates seemed to be doing a pretty good job of shredding the examiner’s nerves by not turning up to her assigned separate room on time (since I was half an hour early, I had time to get settled and check equipment etc. without stress or hassle).

    Is it just me: or does the preponderance of women around here taking exams indicate that female F1 supporters are competitive beings? {brendan stallard - 38 posts ago}

    Mostly in my case it means I like learning stuff and doing qualifications - which tend to go together with exams. I’ve now had exams at the end of every academic year for the last nine years (SATS, GCSE Maths, the other GCSEs, AS Levels, A2 Levels, degree stuff, degree stuff, degree stuff and AS Level/OCR respectively). Given that I plan to do Level 3 Text Processing, would like to start learning Urdu and have discovered that it’ll be two years before I can take A2 Spanish due to a timetable clash with work, I expect the next two academic years at least to end with exams…

    I can’t imagine anything happening to my guitar, I love it soo much! {lou - 35 posts ago}

    I’m competitive too - ask anyone who’s been in the same swimming gala as me - but you wouldn’t want to play tennis against me unless you really, really enjoy retrieving tennis balls from awkward places. In the last (six-week) half-term when school asked me to play tennis in PE, I hit seven balls onto the school roof. Powerful stroke + lousy aim = lots of work for men on ladders. I make Juan Pablo Montoya look good at tennis…

    y’all will let us know how you get on won’t ya? {me - 34 posts ago}

    Managed to hear and understand every word on the Spanish listening tape, which never happened in practise, so I think I’m going to get a really good score for that. The reading was trickier but I think I got the right answers for a lot of it. I’m not so confident on the writing, but it did at least appear to be a coherent stretch of Spanish consisting of the correct number of words (they’re a bit picky about that on this exam board). Results unknown until the first Thursday in August to fall in a week that is completely August (according to tradition for A/AS-Level results).

    at least it wasn’t Runaway Bride or Wild Wild West {Dan Brunell - 19 posts ago}

    I watched Wild Wild West once, largely so that I didn’t end up watching Star Wars Episode I twice in four days (even as a Star Wars fan who quite liked that episode, I thought it would be overkill…) By halfway through the film, I’d completely lost the thread of what was going on, other than there appeared to be a bunch of cowboys in an apparent attempt to look as silly and rude as possible without getting a 15 certificate and some rather violent androids which didn’t quite fit into the Wild West theme…

    As for the FIA letter, Max is trying to hang on to power, but this attempt just makes him look less suited to the role than if he’d said nothing at all. He was the one who negotiated the dodgy TV agreement, he was the one who had no backup or succession plan in place and he was the one who was so secretive and disdainful of others that he is now paranoid about what external forces may do to his pet project.

    He’s opposing any new Concorde Agreement unless most of the power goes to the FIA - a situation which the teams are not going to allow, given that much of the document’s purpose is to control the FIA’s actions towards F1 (it also controls the actions of every other powerful group towards F1). It also sounds like he’s managed to annoy the big touring clubs for mutiny to be threatened.

    Oh, and the structure of the letter doesn’t work (e.g. he refers to the F1 negotiations in passing as if everyone knew about them before bothering to mention their existence fully). These things taken together hint at a president who is even less capable of doing the job than it appeared before the letter was released.

    that is true.

    my assumption is that bernie’s meeting with the teams - held, unusually in a glass motorhome, without soundproof walls - where he waved his hands and got irate with team bosses for not wanting to oust max, actually shows he really on max’s side.

    and that’s the problem.

    bernie doesn’t want to renegotiate the 100 year agreement, but maybe the team bosses do. but they can never agree on anything.

    so it doesn’t matter how bad max makes himself look, it’s all irrelevant, because bernie’s on his side. the touring clubs will never organise a mutiny, it’s politics which means they’re all in it for themselves. same reason the GPMA failed years ago.

    I think Max’s letter is a desperate attempt to cling to power. I have written similar posts on a couple of sites already but here goes again.

    He is trying to play the sport against the touring clubs to divide and conquer.

    He claims he is the only person capable of re-negotiating the contract with FOG who are asking for powers Max doesn’t think they should have. So why not just tell them he has no interest in re-negotiation. It’s no more complex than that.

    Max claims to be the only person capable of these negotiations. This is to say the least odd because he disqualified himself from the original negotiations on the basis of conflict of interest although I think this really means he didn’t want to be held accountable for giving Bernie 100 years of rights for £3.47.

    Max clearly thinks that working in complete isolation is a good thing. No major organisation should be totally reliant on one person carrying out any majror negotiations. For the original negotiations Max put a four man panel of dubious characters in place to negotiate on behalf of the FIA. Why can’t they re-negotiate if such talks are necessary?

    Even in Maxworld he must realise that he can’t tie up every loose end before he moves on.

    He mentions the rally rights around the same time he talks about how he is going to prevent F1 losing too many teams. There are only three remotely competitive teams in the WRC and it is a very pale imitation of its former self.

    I posted on Clive’s news site that I believed Max had probably written his letter on Andrex and I see no reason to change that opinion.

    yesterday singer lily allen was sunbathing on his boat and all was good, so he’s a football boss, yet today she’s thrown off for being drunk and disorderly, and suddenly briatore owns an f1 team.

    Weird. Besides, he runs an F1 team. He used to own a couple of teams, right? Like Ligier. Bernie is always referred to as F1 supremo, a funny title. I’m not really familiar with the British press but I think it’s unfair to treat fat old Flav like that. BBC website offers some kind of interview with him and predictably it’s all on the subject of football (a GOOD new activity for Flav although he claims he used to play football with Fisichella) and glamour.

    Check dis out: Eurosport will be showing Williams the factory show tomorrow, at least German Eurosport available for me. I hope it resembles American chopper show, only joking but the preview looks a lot like American chopper without swearing.

    Have I ever told you I have a thing about gurls with fancy names and too many brains? {brendan stallard - 5 postd ago}

    brendan, I’m starting to get a bit worried. What am I meant to do with a guy with a crush?

    you already do English betterer than us folks born with the stuff. {brendan stallard - 5 posts ago}

    English is my mother tongue, though it took me a long time to figure out how to speak it (as opposed to listening, which I developed at an average rate, and reading, which I was doing to a decent standard at 18 months…) - my parents joke that I ended up as verbose as I am in order to make up for all the quiet years when I was younger!

    how come when there’s good news to report about flav, the tabloids refer to him as “Queens Park Rangers owner Flavio”, yet when something bad happens he’s “Formula 1 boss Flavio”? {me - 3 posts ago}

    That is rather unfair. Maybe it says something about the relative coolness of football and F1…

    I have German Eurosport because it’s on Astra satellite. I dunno what Eurosport you watch. I suggest you go to eurosport/yahoo website and check out the programming for your region. In my case it’s tomorrow at 7:15 pm.

    to answer your earlier question, we have no eurosport at all :)

    it’s not deliberate on our part, we’ve set the site to allow up to two links. spam filters gone crazy again.

    For anyone who is wanting to watch The Factory on Eurosport UK it is on at 7:15 - i love sky + :D

    What would make it even better would be if i could somehow record programs onto a dvd or get it onto my computer so that i can share them with others. if anyone knows a simple way to do this, please shout. I do emphasise the simple though ;) It would also be handy to be able to put the races i have recorded onto a DVD - they take up alot of space.

    european sport broadcaster. used to watch them for hours and hours back in the 90’s. loved them, they cover pretty much every sport imaginable. not sure if they’re still as good as they used to be though.

    available in the uk through a variety means, but none that we have access to at the moment.

    You should be able to find the second episode of THE FACTORY here.

    I didn’t capture it myself (Eurosport disappeared 2 weeks ago) but I’m hopeful I can get the future episodes as well; if wanted.
