Live Commenting: Monaco - The Race
It’s been raining this morning in Monaco, and raining hard. Formula 1 seems set to experience it’s first wet 2008 race today, the only questions that remain are how much rainfall, and for how long?
MeteoGroup’s animated radar prediction shows more rain heading for the principality and it’s worth keeping an eye on this during the race. Earlier today a GP support race had to start behind the safety car and it’s more than conceivable that it could happen again this afternoon.
In driver news, it’s more bad luck for David Coulthard who drops back 5 places on the grid after he damaged his gearbox in qualifying yesterday. He is further compromised by starting with the fuel load the team already specified, while Timo Glock is the benefactor, starting in tenth position but with his own strategy choice.
A number of drivers are nervous ahead of the action, with Webber stating “We love the challenge of driving in the wet, but driving around here is a bit insane really. It is very, very slippery”.

Coulthard was just talking and saying how they had looked at different aspects of what had happened, but he sounded not completely convinced it was a driver problem, just that they could not find anything wrong: “we have to assume that I lost the rear”…

Well, considering the massive pile-up I am expecting to happen when the cars are released, I figure there’s going to be 1:30 of dead-air time that the reports will have to fill-up somehow…Right? So I am betting a “couple of thousand + one”.
Does anyone know if the rain is supposed to pass by during or after the3 race because I would not let it pass by the F1A to have the who race ben run under teh satefy car if it is bad enough.
Of course this makes it even more entertaining becasue the wet weatehr tires will not be spining fast enough to clear massive amounts of water and the tire temperature will get colder and colder, until there’s no grip on the tires. So Rain, Aquaplanning, empty fuel tanks, and drivers complaining about no traction (grip) from the tires….
You just watch. Today it will be a case of if you finish, you will get points. If you wreck the car, you still might get points.
