Live Commenting: France - The Race
It’s raceday in France and we’re just a little bit excitable this morning. When was the last time anyone said that prior to the French Grand Prix?
Today’s grid was always going to be a mixed up affair given the 10-place drops imposed on Hamilton and Rosberg, but Kovalainen’s unexpected 5-place penalty for impeding Webber really puts the silver cats amongst the pigeons. Two out of position McLaren’s could see us witness a masterclass in overtaking this afternoon.
Also coming to McLaren’s aid (and providing us some additional drama) could well be the weather. As Stuart pointed out in the comments earlier there was a little rain falling on the circuit earlier this morning and the clouds overhead aren’t looking very friendly.
The woes of one team are benefiting many others, with both Renaults now joining two Toyota’s and two Red Bull’s in the top ten. The opening laps in the mid-field pack should be blink-and-you-miss-it stuff, as everyone tries to capitalise on McLaren’s poor fortune.
The fight for the win will also be worth keeping an eye on. It looks to be a Ferrari walk-over up front, but which of the two drivers will take ten points?

More likely to be speculation, I think – McLaren don’t divulge their strategy to ITV or anyone else.
The track’s drying out a bit but the left-hand side of the grid is still damp. Weather data on FOM page 3 is static, too.

Maybe, it depends on how much he is going to be pressured in the later part of the race. If he and Kim forge ahead enough, he doesn’t have to move his head around checking his mirrors. There are some turns at MC that have some decent G’s though…

My expectations for the race are at the front it will be a silhouette in red, while for the McLaren team they must be thinking perfection should never be this hard. In the Renault camp its gonna get better while Toyota must be wondering if its not enough to get senior management off their backs given their budgets. The BMW duo its going to be a case of run run run if they are to remain close to the top. Hopefully the Red Bull cars are saying to their drivers “I’ll never let you down”. Given STR’s season so far it will be good if the race is more than tyre tracks and broken hearts. The poor qualifying form of Williams is a bit of a return to blue, while the Hondas will need to be faster than the speed of night if Rubens and Jenson are to score today. Sadly for Force India it is little more than goin through the motions.

Kimi is born to be a winner in France while Felipe will celebrate a Ferrari 1-2. Against all odds Fernando will finish on the podium. Today the Renault was too hot for Robert to do any better than fourth. Lewis simply run out of time and settled on fifth place.
