Sidepodcast presents a presenter-less look at the German Grand Prix, which returns this year to the incredibly flat Hockenheimring circuit.
In this special edition of the show, join Sebastian Vettel for a once in a lifetime trip around the German track onboard a Red Bull helicopter. Vettel explains how to drive every inch of the course while quietly impressing himself with the spectacular views on offer.
We also catch up with the current state of the ever-so-close championship, but let’s be honest, even that isn’t enough to distract us from all the flying.
Music played: Paula Toledo, Fly Away
Special thanks to Red Bull Racing and RTV GmbH for the use of their video footage.

How amazing is Vettel at commentating? He had the whole lap covered. We need to sign him up

another budding commentator in waiting.
editing that video was fun, i was busy trying to cue up sounds coming from the red bull rotor blades only to find myself distracted by an actual police helicopter practising manoeuvres overhead.
“podcast delayed due to low flying aircraft” is a tenuous excuse, even for me.

Hey guys, got myself new Mac and bunch of photos from Hockenheim 2006, grabbed a crazy guy with a guitar and here is my mashup

After trying to put this together, and another one a bit later, I must ask you - how do you manage to do this every week
and still find time recording other shows ?

ahh, welcome to a world of creativity.
see what i mean?
well, firstly very good video. i wish our first attempt looked like that.
secondly, this week we had to skip the “time consuming bit” due to presenter illness. all i can say is wait until you get into chroma keying, then you’ll really wonder how we fit it all in
have to say i prefer your mashup vid, just because it’s more creative (with the guitar and the use of photographs etc), whereas anyone could’ve probably put the second one together. anyhow, do keep up the good work.

I really liked that footage. Ok I’m bias, but thumbs up to Red Bull for putting it together and Vettel for his commentary ‘madskillz’

Thanks Christine. This preview has confirmed to me that new Hockenheimring layout really does stink in comparison to the old wonderful forest layout. Not only does the new track does not come anywhere near the forest, but it has lost any character that the old track developed. Heck, I thought this was footage from Indianopolis…..
Then again, the current layout at Nurburgring is even worse when compared to the Nordschleife. Just type Nurburging in wikipedia and there’s a map of the old “Green Hell” and a red outline (specK) that shows the new circuit.
Oh yes, F1 has made improvesmesnt at different events too. Melbourne’s Albert Park is a far superior circuit than Downtown Adelaide ever was, just in case you think I am just a gumpy old man whne it comes to F1 circuits…

Wow wee!
I *really* enjoyed that one… Very *very* impressive. Thanks for all the hard work you’ve been putting in: I appreciate it even more than usual this week

I’ve been to sidepodcast for only two days (as of now).
But, I’m already in love with it.
The first video I saw was this.
Simply awesome.
I have a very crazy liking to choppers and aircrafts.
And when the chopper flies that low, and so near to the camera, it was a visual treat.

And you said about Chroma Keying.
It isn’t used in this video, right??
July 23rd, 2008 at 9:47 amme said:
cheers aravind
that’s correct.
we don’t use it in every video - for example the silverstone preview was recorded ‘on-location’ and didn’t require it either.
the majority of the time we do make use of the technology though, and the most recent example was the french preview vid (christine isn’t really at the magny-cours circuit).
chroma-keying is processor intensive though, and we frequently have to leave it rendering overnight. not a big problem unless something goes wrong and it needs re-doing, then suddenly you’re a whole day behind schedule.

Yeah.
Me too love chroma-keying.
After all, it’s the basis for many many things we see !!
I saw it in the Sepang Video.
The Malaysian flag is fluttering behind Christine !!
And Mr.”Me” may I know your name?

the cool thing about that video is we made the fluttering flag as well. by that’s a post for another day.
that wouldn’t make me very anonymous would it?
