McLaren are seriously leading all the way, but there’s still room for others to shine, as Vettel, Trulli and Alonso have proven. Keep an eye on Raikkonen and Kubica though.
Free Practice 3
Many of the drivers struggled to find grip today, whether because of the cooler climates, or their tyres graining. Kovalainen went straight to the top of the timesheets, whilst Sutil headed for the gravel.
Qualifying
No rain, despite the forecasts, and we saw Raikkonen struggling whilst Massa skipped into second with ease. Trulli and Alonso put in fine performances, but it was all about Hamilton on pole position.
Conclusions
Several of our drivers believe they may have been held up in traffic, maybe even impeded, but so far there have been no penalties handed out. Barrichello is hoping he can repeat his feat from 2000, 18th to 1st in the race. We’ll have to wait and see.

Good summary, I was lucky enough that I could watch the qualifying (had enough bandwidth). I am really surprised at just how fast the Trulli train was today. Suspect Kimi is on heavier fuel, but the BMW Saubers did not look particularly good - shades of a French deja vu. Everyone at Red Bull should be encouraged by DeSeb’s form - very impressive. I am hoping for rain to mix the field up. Without rain though my prediction is Lewis, Felipe, Kimi, Fernando, Jarno, Kovy, Robert and Mark.

I only caught the last ten minutes of qualifying so this show is a good summary for me instead of just being a reminder as it is normally. I am amazed that you get so much info into 10 minutes.
I think I know where Kovi is going wrong. He thinks it was a good lap considering he went rallycrossing. If you go rally crossing it is a bad lap. Rallycrossing = bad. I hope that helps him if he reads it.

Rallycrossing is good if you’re rally-crossing, however F1 is supposed to be the pinnacle of circuit racing. Though to be fair, Heikki’s probably just trying to say that the part of the lap when he wasn’t rallycrossing is fine and that he’s basically happy with the car. Which is a long way of saying that his poor position is his fault.

morning all, and Heikki and McLaren have gotten into a bit of trouble with the FIA. Look:

Still, it doesn’t affect his 3rd place on the grid, which is good

McLaren must be wondering when they can do something right…

i would argue that it was a stupid thing to do and they got off very lightly with that one.
wouldn’t you?

what’s the name of the weather system the FIA uses again? MetFrance or something? I’d like to check the weather for today
July 20th, 2008 at 11:22 amScott Woodwiss said:
Just a check on Accuweather - it’s going to be mostly cloudy and overcast with heavy rain and showers possible. Temperatures expected to hover around 20C and 22C. So it’ll be humid, but quite muggy and overcast. Hopefully we’ll see a shower or two. Rain’s always a good thing, as has proved the point at Silverstone and Monaco

I think they use meteo france.

I’d agree - I’d expected a grid penalty. But still, it seems like McLaren can’t do anything these days without breaking some rule or other…

Now that was sneaky of Robert!
I think they use meteo france. {lou - previous comments}
That is correct. May I also say at this point that their website is horribly designed and makes it very hard to find out anything at all?

Windguru, by the way, asserts that there will be no rain until late tomorrow evening, although it will look very overcast for the rest of the day.
