At first glance, it looks like McLaren will walk this weekend easily, securing a 1-2 in qualifying. However, there are glimpses of hope from unexpected quarters, including Kubica, Glock and maybe even Massa.
Free Practice 3
Another slow start to the day, but once the cars were out on track, it was worth keeping an eye on them. The Renault’s were trying out a radical new (slow) strategy, whilst Vettel was making the most of being able to get through an actual session.
Qualifying
Heidfeld had issues from the very start, whilst Kubica was very much best of the rest. Hamilton and Kovalainen led the way, looking unbeatable.
Conclusions
A five-place grid drop for Bourdais means that he lines up in 19th place, whilst at the very other end of the grid, Hamilton is ecstatic with the new updates to the car.

I was sort of leaning over to manoeuvre my chair out of the way, and all of a sudden became aware that the pass was dangling ominously close to the muesli…
Weather report? Scorchio! Ambient is 28C and the track temp is 35, and (if you’ll forgive me quoting Yazz & The Plastic Population) the only way is up! Very few clouds in the sky.

Some were speaking about Grosjean being the next Schumacher before the season got underway. This might be true in terms of his attitude to sportsmanship, but doesn’t appear to be the case as far as driving talent is concerned.
Here’s a summary of his GP2 controversies, so far:
He was accused of swerving dangerously towards competitors in the Asia series, and then punished for doing so after the incident with Kobayashi, at Barcelona.
Had a win taken from him at Hockenheim after passing under yellow flags.
Took championship rival Pantano out of the feature race yesterday, and was made to start from the back of the grid today as a result.
Despite what would have been termed ‘racing under probation’ in the US, he shunted Parente clean off the road this morning.
It’s interesting that the stewards made Di Grassi serve a drive-through during the race for a similar incident, but took no action against Grosjean. I wonder whether they’re now considering imposing a ban for one, or more, races.

I get that impression too. Stuart, I think you need to put that pass on a lanyard and then put the lanyard on your neck (adjusting the lanyard to avoid more breakfast incidents), rather than trying to follow whatever paddock fashion is in vogue for pass-wearing this season.
