Obviously it was wet in Spa, it always is, and the drivers struggled their way round two free practice sessions. Tune in to F1 Digest for a full round up of proceedings.
Free Practice 1
A slow start to the day, although we’ve seen worse, gave way to some pretty slippery laps and no major incidents. The laptimes weren’t particularly outstanding, and I don’t think anyone learnt anything from this session.
Free Practice 2
The predicted rain meant things got going very quickly, but the inactivity once the weather hit balanced it out a bit. Plenty of incidents as well, with many drivers meeting the barriers.
Conclusions
It seems like the majority of drivers had a pretty bad day. Normally they say it was okay and they feel like they’re making progress. Today wiped out everything we already knew, and we’ll start afresh again tomorrow.

on the subject of the williams’ front wings.
i’m not sure the pit boys need much more practice changing their noses. kaz has lost more this season than i’ve had hot dinners. my guess would be they were doing back-to-back trials between the two drivers.
either way they weren’t very quick in fp1.

@me: Unless you were just being funny: I had the impression that the Williams’ nose changes were about changing downforce settings without wasting time, not about practicing changing the cones…

ooh, really? in that case that’s very clever gr.
i assumed the wings were in some way structurally different, but i’m impressed if the team have optimised the way they tweak configuration changes. worth keeping an eye on, thank you.

Kubica is right that the engine stalling was not his fault. Unfortunately now the driver is not responsible for keeping the engine running. They have anti-stall software which is supposed to do it for them. Ridiculous as it sounds it should be impossible for a driver to stall an engine.
Nice to hear drivers getting away from all the politically correct nonsense. It sounds like the STR drivers are spending too much time with Berger.

50th episode of F1 Digest? Yup, that calls for a celebration. We will not hold it against you if “Me” does take you out to a 100 pound bill type restaurant in honour of this occasion…., and folks the bill himself.
Of course, there is always the home-made Fugu…

[I feel a bit silly being all boring and technical after the 50th episode congratulatory dance, with which adulations I concur of course, but...]

Don’t get me wrong, that’s just pure speculation. It’s not like I work in any type of race cars’ pits or anything, but the cones sure looked like the same design to me, and that’s the conclusion I came to.
