F1 Digest - Italy Free Practice

Sidepodcast F1 Digest logo

Rain doesn’t fall at Monza that often, but as the saying goes, when it rains it pours. Today saw Sutil take P1 for a session, and that’s almost all you need to know about Free Practice. The rest you can learn in today’s F1 Digest.

Free Practice 1

Have you ever seen such monsoon weather? The drains were flooding into the McLaren garages, and Sutil ended the day on top, followed by a Honda. Bizarre goings on in Italy.

Free Practice 2

Things seemed to take a much more natural shape with Raikkonen leading the way, although he wasn’t the only one to hit P1, in a session that saw a lot of chopping and changing.

Conclusions

The overwhelming noise from the paddock seems to be that at least the lack of running affected everyone and they all go into the next Free Practice session with roughly the same amount of work to do. Of course, having just tested at the track seems to have helped somewhat as well.

Hamilton’s ego is starting to get out. The lovely persona is fading away and the angry and bitter sportsman is starting to ooze.

The “I’m just another guy, trying to win a race is about to go, to the I’m better than everybody else is dodging the mouth sensor. People were right, Schumacher Number 2

I’m all for having confidence in yourself, and as Formula 1 is such dangerous sport, the ultimate belief in yourself is necessary to succeed in such a fickle and fine-art sport. But out-right horn-blowing and trumpet tooting is not on. Get back in ya shell!

    From F1-Live.com

I think Massa is on the back foot and he is the one that has to work damn hard to keep up with me,” said Hamilton.

“That’s the way he drives. If you don’t have the balls to brake late, that’s your problem,” the Briton said, referring to Raikkonen. “At the end of the day, in those situations, it’s the driver who can feel the grip more - and put the car more on the edge - that gets past. I’m great in those conditions,” Hamilton added.

    Morning all,

Not looking great out there at the moment. Track temp is 20 and air temp is 22. There was a thunderstorm overnight but the track surface is drying already.

On the other hand, there’s barely any wind so there may not be much change.

italian newspapers yesterday were reporting that hamilton said that Raikkonen lacks courage. nice to see some trash talking going on…according to the newpaper i read here, the quote was “If you don’t have the ba–s to brake late then that is your problem”. (self censored for the kiddies.)

why would the stewards set a hearing date for the last race, on the same weekend as the big Singapore “what if the lights go out” race? surely it should be a few days before so we can concentrate on racing for a change. I think the stewards are enjoying being in the limelight. they must have seen Max’s influence.

speaking of which, Italian media has reported that while at Monza, Max said that he will stay until the end of his contract, to the end of 2009. He also went on to say that he thought the most important thing at the moment is for the cost reductions of the sport.
