Games Without Frontiers

Is it that time again already? Come along and join us as we record Episode 78 of F1 Debrief, previously known as Sidepodcast Weekly. Today we’ll be discussing the recent test at Jerez, plus some news in Good Week / Bad Week.

We also have a brand new, top secret element of the Sidepodcast world to introduce to you, and most likely we’ll be building up Singapore, and therefore jinxing it before it’s even started.

We’re hoping to go live at 4pm UK time, so if you’re around and available to join us in the live comments, we’d love to have you. Feedback is an important part of the show, and if we can get it live, even better.

Click on the triangle in the top right, or here to get to the Live Commenting Live… Thing. There have been some updates recently, so let us know if you’re having troubles, or if it makes your life easier. Either way we want to know. See you soon!

on a mac it’s crtl+f and should still be working, as should the shortcuts for bold and italic.

This is in Chrome for PC. I change computers so much sorry for the confusion. I have to say that I’m now not sure if it ever worked in Chrome… Let me check a few things…

won’t it be over by the first round? just curious, not actually following this year.

Seems to work Alt-Shift-F in Firefox (PC). Alt-F IE8 (PC) Shift works too but you don’t need it. But in Chrome no key combination I can attempt seems to work.

The weird thing is that I can imagine Alt-F having problems on the PC because obviously that’s the file menu, but Chrome doesn’t have that so it doesn’t really make sense.

Obviously Chome’s only been out for about a week and it really isn’t the most important of things.

hmm, that isn’t an option sadly. we’ll have to have a think about it.

if you refresh, i shrunk the height of the comment box. it makes things a bit cramped but that’s the best i can do at the moment.

Thing is, with the live comments, I don’t think we necessarily need all the bells and whistles. Looking through the comments, how many people felt the need to make something bold or italic? The quote is the most used, and you’ve got that licked.

So then you’re saying you want Tiny-MCE but not the bar I guess… The only problem is getting out of a situation where you accidentaly blockquote something and then delete it.

No, what I’m saying is, in the politest possible way, is that I don’t like the tinymce thing and would be happy with just the yellow quote selector (I presume this isn’t related to tinymce), and a post-comment button.

I’m with you, Ollie. Not really a fan of the TinyMCE thing. Don’t see what it adds. If someone doesn’t understand blockquote, then they don’t use it, it doesn’t really matter, does it?

I think the blockquote thing is cool, and it makes the site look cleaner. Me never used to blockquote on my site until recently (and I understand why - all that typing), and although he added quotemarks so it was readable as a quote, it made the comments look weird. But other things like bold, italic, link, strike… there just pointless to me. But, and that is a J-Lo-sized but, this is just me and my opinion.

Don’t mean to sound negative but those last couple of pre-season months this year were not fun. I was only kept going by Super Aguri struggles. Appears that there wont be many driver changes for next year, either.

Not saying it’s fun, Dom, just that things don’t stop happening simply because the racing is over. Personally, although I get frustrated with the off-season, I couldn’t cope with racing all the time. I’m with Ron D. on this one - the off-season makes the season SO much better.

i’m sure we can find loads of things to keep ya occupied. last year we didn’t stop, and aside from propping up eddie’s bar, i doubt we will this year.

Do what I do. Dug up a working old computer so that you can properly play an old racing game, especially Grand Prix Legends, so that you do stuff that unheard in F1 cars now days like have all four tyres airborne at the crest of hills and drive on track that you have never even heard off. Or tracks you have heard in their fully glory.

    Cooper-Climax V8’s rule!

pretty much yeah. if you can get sms subscriptions working, you need never miss a thing.

we’re also thinking 9pm time slot every sunday instead of trying to vary things? any takers?

lou, I’ll have to find a way back from Birmingham too, and I don’t know if I’m going to need a train or whether Dad will give me a lift. However, I would say that the kart track is near Birmingham New Street station, which in turn is one station down from Birmingham International (where Autosport is). One of the reasons why I thought that particular kart track would be a good choice was the public transport links.

I’m only planning on going on the Saturday because tickets to Autosport are not cheap and I’m sure my dad will want to tag along (even if he isn’t doing any actual karting, meeting F1 fans other than myself would be interesting for him, plus if I want to go by car he’d have to drive it). At the moment I don’t know whether I’m coming in by train or car - train would be pretty cheap for me (though not necessarily for Dad), but the car would be free ;)

If you need to discuss train timetables and the like, lou, I’d be happy to help you find a way to Autosport and back.
