Maybe This Time I’ll Win
Please don’t forget to update your Fantasy Racers team.
Last week didn’t work out so well for me, and I partially blamed the fact that the Fantasy Racers site was down for a lot of the final day. However, this time it’s been up for ages, and I’ve still only just managed to select my team for the penultimate race.
If you’re interested in what crazy system I have picked this time round, then I’ll tell you. Any guy that has driven for the team that is currently third in the constructors, BMW. That leaves me with:
| Name | Price (£m) |
|---|---|
| Nick Heidfeld | 8.50 |
| Robert Kubica | 8.10 |
| Sebastian Vettel | 5.20 |
| Timo Glock | 5.80 |
| Total | 27.60 |
I do appear to have a bit of cash left over, which is annoying, because I tried the system with Renault but there were too many drivers and I couldn’t afford to complete the set. Nevertheless, I have a feeling this might be an okay week for Sidepodcast Racers.
As ever, don’t forget to update your team, and let us know who you’re going with and why.

So, my adversary has revealed her hand. Very well, I shall reveal mine!
Alonso
Hamilton
Trulli
Vettel
Game on.

I am thinking of…
Alonso
Hamilton
Webber
Bourdais
But it is a very risky team …. Alonso might take Hamilton out or vise versa at the start. Webber might go on a walk-about and Bourdais will be Bourdais promise a lot and deliver rather little mostly due to his own bad luck.

i have a system this week that’ll trump christine’s. i’m going for:
the three championship contenders
you don’t actually need me to list them do ya?
anyhow, it cost me 34.20m, but it does mean i can’t afford alonso

Oh, that’s genius. Wish I’d thought of that. That’d actually have been a great lineup to have all season!

Too late now!
No way, that was the team I was gonna go with before I decided on Trulli and Vettel!

actually quick change
Hamilton
Alonso
Kubica
The championship leader plus the two drivers on form at the moment who aren’t in an Macca or Ferrari.

I’ve been having my doubts about Kubica though. He mentioned in his Friday quotes that he’d been struggling with finding the setup, which was the reason he’d been off the pace today.

Jordan F1 has elected to us his evil Anti-Christ(ine) stragtegy as it lessens any damage casued by Christine’s bad luck and he new habit of proaching from my team (her picks one more would have wiped out 60% of the Jordan F1 team).
It allows me to maximise points given the limitations that I am operating under:
Jordan F1: Team Lead: Kubica.
Rear Gunners: Alonso, Trulli and Webber
Homing Missile: Sutil (Take out Hamilton).

That is why I dumped him from my team.
I am working on a wet race day so I am thinking Hamilton could win. Alonso is looking good too. Webber could be up there and the same for Jarno but he has been in my team for ages and not scored well but he was faster today. Bourdais has been as fast as Vettel recently and his qualifying so far has been faster. This team uses all 35 million. Problem is whenever I have Bourdais in my team he crashes or retires or something.
Of course I could go for the really crazy combo of both renault drivers, lewis and lewis’ friend adrian (has has not criticized him yet and is good in the wet). The renaults are looking good. Any want to comment on this team?

You’ve nicked three of my drivers!
As ever, sticking with the trusty 5 of Kubs, Nicky, Vets, Webs and DC. Done me proud so far.

Have decided to go for my crazy team above. By including PK it means I have included every driver at one point or another in my team to show that I really am quite fair.
On the plus side Christine’s choice has no overlap with mine so I am fairly confident of scoring points!

hmm a wet strategy could pay off. most of the weather sites i’ve seen over the past couple of days have forecast rain for the race.

right another change
Hamilton
Heidfeld
Webber
Vettel
All people I know are good in the wet.

phew, just got home in time to change my fantasy racers
my new team is
Massa
Button
Kubica
Vettel
not really much of a system in my choices, sorry.
lol that’s kinda q good though, cause when you don’t have alonso he does really well and i would like to see him get a good result this weekend (not saying he is gonna win, but it would be nice to see him high up in the points
) Tis the reason i’ve not put him back in my team this week.

you put alonso in your team, cause i didn’t
October 17th, 2008 at 17:05Rich said:
And he started from second position!
Went for the crazy combo of both renault drivers, Lewis and his chum adrian.
October 17th, 2008 at 17:40lou said:
noo. i’ve not put him in my team this weekend
I want him to do well, and I’ve noticed when you have him in your team he does badly and that you didn’t have him in your team this weekend so I didn’t want to bring him any bad luck at all so I decided it was better not to jinx him by putting him in my team. Not sure that makes any sense. Sorry, a lack of food and sleep is never a good combination.

‘me’ has nicked my whole team. I forgot all about changing them so I have had them for the last 3 or four races. I haven’t scored many points though as they keep inventing ways for one or more of them to struggle.
October 17th, 2008 at 19:20SteveintheUK said:
I’m going with Trulli and Webber, in the hope that they will score me loads of points this weekend, as lets face it, now that Christine has picked my other three drivers, Kubica, Heidfeld and Glock, there’s not really much chance of them scoring many points for me as I had hoped for this weekend.
Guess that means my hope of finishing the season in the top 20 for our league (currently 30th), or in the top 200 over all (currently 251st)may also go out the window this weekend.
But then Christine’s drivers did do fairly well last weekend so maybe her team has finally stopped sandbagging, or racing with a couple of sandbags neatly packed into their sidepods.
Anyway, Good Luck to every body this weekend, hope it turns out to be as a exciting race as Japan.

I’ve risked a lot at this race:
Alonso
Trulli
Webber
Piquet
Vettel
I am the only in the top8 that didn’t choose Kubica. And the only one with Piquet.
If Piquet and Vettel do well (between 5th and 8th place for them would do it) and Kubica and Sutil do bad tomorrow (Kubica out of the points and Sutil DNF early), I think I can get really close to Jordan again and fight for the championship
Other than that, I expect to stay there with the top5 - unless Kubica wins the race, then I will be really mad

This is the first race of the season that i wouldn’t call you mad for choosing Piquet, Felipe
Have gone for Robert, Fernando, Timo, De Seb and Le Seb myself. Hoping for a very strong last two races, having finally hauled myself in 42nd place.
