The final qualifying for 2008 provided no end of surprises and sets up the grid nicely for the championship battle. It managed to stay dry and still keep us guessing.
Free Practice 3
Alonso repeated his success of yesterday by popping his Renault onto the top of the timesheets in the dying moments of the session, although all eyes were on the McLaren / Ferrari battle - which Hamilton won.
Qualifying
Lots of surprises in store today, with some drivers failing to live up to the crowds expectations, some failing to live up to their own expectations, and some completely surpassing ours.
Conclusions
Many, many teams seem to be disappointed with their day’s work, and only Vettel admitted to having fun out on track today. It’s been a long season and this is the last race in what has been an incredibly tight competition. As Massa said, anything can happen.

Hmm, Accuweather still has thunderstorms from 3pm until 5pm, which means that according to that forecast it will rain all race. But it looks like just sudden storms rather than just a build up from a small drizzle. 2pm show it just being cloudy and then immeadiate thunder and lightning for 2 hours. I’m hoping we get some kind of rain at least. It will help Hamilton out for sure and Ferrari……well, we’ve seen what they’re like in those conditions

Hamilton wins the title if
-Massa wins but Hamilton comes at least fifth
-Massa comes second and Hamilton takes at least two point, arriving 7th of better
-Massa comes third or worse
Massa wins the title if
-he wins the race and Hamilton does not come in the first five places
-he places second and Hamilton if 8th place or worse.

Actually, once I got a digital set top box I found the swiss network (I’m in the north of italy) that show movies with optional english audio. Unfortunately, last night I was trying to watch Syriana (with Clooney/Damon) and while I had english audio, the parts in Farsi were subtitled only in german. The italian movies now are also beginning to show movies with optional audio. I miss english language TV, and that’s why I love james allen in all his glory

November 2nd, 2008 at 11:12Journeyer said:
I’m betting that Danish coverage is better than Asian coverage on Star Sports. Lead commentator Steve Slater is 10 times worse than Allen (just ask anyone who’s watched him - Wolf, in particular). He doesn’t have a fixed partner - some are very good, like Karun Chandhok or Chris Goodwin (Bruno Senna’s driver coach), while others are so horrible I don’t remember their names.
November 2nd, 2008 at 11:14Alex Andronov said:
Journeyer I remember reading an article by an English journalist who joined Steve Slater in the box. He had never commentated anything before and was then instantly broadcasting to the world.

I can. An english speaking colleague has got one, but I tend to be someone that will watch TV regardless of what is on. It’s my way of trying to learn the language/s (italian and german) by watching gameshows and things. I’ve been here 12 months now and I’m doing okay.Just don’t ask me to speak
Do you watch an ITV feed like us?

November 2nd, 2008 at 11:23RubberGoat (Gavin Brown) said:
Yeah I can - no ITV or BBC though.
Most TV programmes in English are broadcast in English with Danish Subtitles. However most sports are broadcast with Danish commentators.
The commentators we have here are the worst kind - multisporters with no proper knowledge of the actual sport they are commentating on. The F1 guys don’t even bother going to the track. The football commentators are ok - Brian Laudrup, Jan Molby and Peter Schmeichel…

November 2nd, 2008 at 11:25RubberGoat (Gavin Brown) said:
Oh - in the old days when TV2 Denmark actually bothered with a pre-race show, they had Tom Kristensen and Nicolas Kiesa. Both were crap at commentating though.
Here’s a dumb fact about Nicolas Kiesa - he took part in a TV show called ‘Varm Paa Is’ - basically ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ on Ice and he won it!

I’m definitely on for hosting tonight’s pod panel/cook along. I have some questions already and the rest will come out of the result, reaction and possibly even Top Gear.
For the panellists - please have your suggestions for films/songs/tv shows/books suitable for a modern Formula One driver (example for Massa -”You Spin Me Right Round”, DC - “Crash”) Hopefully you get the idea.
